We keep Knitty free so everyone can access all the patterns. It's important to remind folk that we pay designers for their work (thanks to the support of our Knittyguild, our Patrons), and that designers always keep their copyright! Woo! 🏆

Specifically, the tech editors work the math to make sure it works for all sizes, and pinpoint any potential issues which they work out with the designer before we publish it. 👍

I decided it was time to create www.reddit.com/r/F1forAll/ to help those with accessibility issues share information and their personal stories. We also want to celebrate tracks that are doing it right, and perhaps even help some tracks improve in this area. ...more

A new subReddit! I started F1forAll after attending my first grand prix in Montreal last month. So much of what I experienced was super fun, exciting and more than I could have hoped for, but... www.reddit.com/r/F1forAll/ ...more #f1 #accessibility #disability #mobility #formulaone 🏎️ 🏁

I don’t think so. The focus of the ep is that the phones give the bad guys (can’t remember who) the ability to control everything…

Second PT did a full eval and about 20 mins of Tens (freaky! My first time), plus some serious work in knots in my forearm. Photo for proof. Laughed at the “per-body-part” model of the other clinic. It’s carpal tunnel again plus DeQuervain’s. Except now I have a good therapist helping me.

Doctor Who fans, help? I vividly remember an episode where everyone in the world is unable to resist getting a free cell phone. Soon everyone has them. And then bad things happen. Am I misremembering? Was it not Doctor Who? Google and DW episode lists are failing me.

I had already noted some discomfort around my shoulder, underarm and upper arm so clearly there’s a whole bunch of stuff happening. But who wants to pay for more than one body part?🤦🏻‍♀️
100
knitty® | editor, Amy Sadler @knitty.com · 10/05/2026
The half-assed PT kept insisting that I was there for treatment to one body part and looking at any other attached body parts would be an additional charge. Like the body is a whole structure and they’re gonna charge by body part?

Half-assed PT eval diagnosed carpal tunnel (aaaagh) and dequervain’s. Going to a new PT Tuesday for (hopefully!) more than just a cursory set of tests and a 5-minute laser session. Google reviews lie. Take care of your hands and writer, folx. I’m going stir crazy trying to rest mine. 🤦🏻‍♀️

EEK! I'm sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself! I am feeing the soreness mostly at the base of my thumb so I'm wondering if it's actually a different set of tendons and muscles I've overworked. Appointment with PT in a few hours...will know more then!

It might be time to explore crowdfunding your magazine if a donor doesn’t materialize. I’ve been doing it for 10 years. I use Patreon but there are a lot of platforms that could work for you. Good luck!

If it were my left hand, it absolutely would be posture but no, I think it’s just overuse.
010
knitty® | editor, Amy Sadler @knitty.com · 03/05/2026
I didn’t really get any warning that this was coming during this time of probable overuse. I never imagined I would have a numb hand again and it’s been really bad all day. I’ve done nothing but rest it today. Icing it did no good. Does anybody in the med or PT field have any advice?

I’m freaking out. I spent quite a bit of time playing a PS5 game (borderlands 4). For several months. And over the last week, I’ve been crocheting up a storm on a hexagranny cardigan. This morning, my right hand was numb. One of the 2 hands I had fixed with carpal tunnel surgery 10 years ago.

Sidenote: I've been stress-relieving lately by playing ridiculous amounts of Borderlands 4. I won't tell you how many hours. But one thing I've noticed, since adding Concerta, is that I talk to myself CONSTANTLY while playing. At least it's not making my anxiety worse. I'll take it.

Want to hear me (editor, Amy) on stimulants, talking about Knitty? farmfiberknits.com/long-thread-... I was only on 2nd line meds (Strattera) for ADHD until recently. I added Concerta in a few months ago. I think I can hear the difference in this interview. Talk faster, fewer brain glitches. Crazy.

Fair point, but you've seen drivers ignoring or missing blue flags and impeding racers ahead of them. Got to be a better solution.

I am furious that this is not a standard conversation by all GPs with their menopausal patients. It needs to be. Until then, I'm gonna shout it out so at least we can be informed. It's criminal how marginalized menopausal care is unless patients take the lead, or have a doc who actually gets it.

knitty® | editor, Amy Sadler @knitty.com · 23/03/2026
Urinary tract health is something that post-menopausal bodies can struggle with, and by using the right meds, you can hopefully keep everything working properly, and avoid diapers! Yes, this is gross. Experiencing it is far worse than talking about it. If you haven't yet, pls ask your doctor.

While we're talking menopause and HRT, this is very important info that I didn't get until I was 63. Even if you can't take HRT, vaginal estrogen (like Vagifem) is for more than sexual function. It helps keep your urinary tract functioning properly. The importance of this cannot be overstated.

OOH, that sounds brilliant. I wonder why they didn't go that route in F1? Why would you remove blue flags? Don't cars get lapped in Le Mans? (I know ZERO about any other racing series, except bare bones Indycar.)

knitty® | editor, Amy Sadler @knitty.com · 22/03/2026
I'm a serious fan. I want real racing. But I also want the planet to exist past the next generation or two. There has to be some sort of middle ground where managing the battery is not more important than almost anything else. At least the narrower cars make passing easier!

I remember it was exhausting trying all the options. I'm glad my current GP is willing to help me fine tune as time goes on. Don't forget to look into hormone replacement before you enter full menopause. Estrogen helps with memory, among a million other things!

If you're not in full menopause yet, do talk to your OBGYN about hormone replacement. It might be safe for you, based on the new science in the last year!

You have all the ADs! I think the number of neurodivergent humans who knit/crochet and are online is proportionally higher than anywhere else. It's our perfect environment. It shows up in designers too, with the math-savants doing amazing things. (I'm not one of them.) 🧶

Why does it become unsafe? Because about 5 years after you are in full menopause, your arteries are no longer flexible enough to benefit from the hormones and they could actually do harm instead. (This was the part I never understood...why does it matter when you start? Now I know.) #menopause #HRT

While we're talking, if you're in peri-menopause and haven't talked to your doctor about hormone replacement therapy, PLEASE DO ASAP. Learn your options. New science in the last year shows the risk is much less than previously believed, and you have a short window to start before it's unsafe.
