Call them LLMs. "AI" being a catchall term means using dedicated trained models are confused with these generalized creations. These companies' giant LLMs have a ton of problems and getting the PR from other systems that work better for dedicated tasks.

Little Cormorant Hunt 29/09/26 - 18 colours
Pixelart illustration of a black bird bursting from the sea after catching a fish. The scene is dissected into two parts, the bird's body beneath the water and its head poking out into the sky above with a fish. The underwater section is dark purple and filled with bubbles and swirling currents. The sky is light greenish blue with many fluffy clouds. The feathers on the bird's wings are scaled with lighter tones, resembling the scales of a fish.

Does anyone know the stats on this stuff? I have some bird feeders and I love when the birds come back the last thing I want to do is hurt our local birds. I just planted a little native plant pollinator garden (hasn't bloomed yet) so I'm not just feeding the birds.

Sorry for the weird sidebar. This site isn't made for mobile. This is the Slocum glider fighting the current to try to get to it's waypoint in this Nor'easter. They are buoyancy driven so not going very fast.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Just because the carbon sinks doesn't mean it doesn't kill the ecosystem. Life is carbon.

Lianne @knithacker42.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Do you know how they sink the carbon? They fertilize the sea to produce algae blooms that then use up all the nutrients and die and their bodies are the carbon that sinks to the bottom and it really only does that once it exhausts the oxygen in the water allowing them to decompose.

Treating this as an unstoppable race, and accepting the "endgame" of runaway warming, is a reckless gamble that should never be decided in a boardroom alone. Betting on future carbon removal to fix today's emissions requires far more confidence than the evidence supports.

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.

I disagree. That is exactly how I handle hard days with ADHD. A lot of ADHD symptoms are trauma and anxiety from being told you are just being lazy and you would be good if you tried harder. It definitely is ADHD because this method could work great but it is like a slot machine and other days NOPE!

It's almost like drug use is complicated and in states where the cost of living is extremely high with few opportunities to improve your situation mixed with American culture pushing people away from building community people feel hopeless and just look for an easy way to avoid those feelings.
