Where Does Tom Cruise’s Oscar Campaign Go From Here?
Digger was meant to be the star’s long-awaited Academy coronation. Now the movie might flop, taking his Best Actor chances down with it.

Tom Cruise is facing abysmal reviews of his new film, ‘Digger,’ even if critics still praise his performance in it. If the movie flops, can he still win an Oscar in 2027? ‘Gold Rush’ columnist Nate Jones sketches out his chances.

Miles Teller was the golden boy of my college class, so I can't tell you how weird it is to see him play a middle-aged dad in PAPER TIGER. Even worse, he has been groomed and styled to look disturbingly like ... me!

I'll say this: It is a movie that accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do (be extremely annoying)

Nate Jones @kn8.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Most likely interpretation is the THR writer threw in the Olde English bit without knowing the difference between that and Early Modern English

The optimal scenario would have been a unification of equals to create a new nation (which iirc is what many of the original East German protesters thought they'd be getting) rather than the FRG swallowing the GDR, but of course the West Germans had no incentive to do that
