I don't know why this is so hard for some people to grasp. If we extend our use of fossil gas, rather than going all-out for grid batteries, heat pumps and induction hobs, we extend our dependence on *foreign* sources of gas, regardless of whether we also use the UK's last remaining reserves. 🧵

An insidious danger, which I'm sure is fully mapped out, is 'function creep.' Starmer presents Digital ID as being entirely benign, helpful, up-to-date technology we should just get on with, reassuring us about how it won't be used, only to change its application later, once there's no going back.

3 October: The Observer contacts Reform UK leader Nigel Farage for comment over why he has not updated his register of interests since May, despite continuing to work second jobs and parliamentary rules requiring interests be declared within 28 days. A spokesperson for Farage responds: “All declarations have been made for any earnings outside of Parliament.”

3 October: Farage registers more than £120,000 of earnings, from making speeches in May and June and presenting shows on GB News in July and August, which he received more than 28 days earlier (ie before 5 September) – meaning he is in breach of parliamentary rules.
