Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 21hWhen you fill a hot water bottle do you use the hot tap at the sink or a kettle full of boiling water? (I've always done the latter but read in the last year or two that you're meant to do the former because of the risk of the bottle splitting and covering you in boiling water). 100
Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 02/10/2026A plot feature I saw twice in a day or two: people locking mobile phones away in devices intended to reduce use and then things happening to them that really needed the ability to make a phone call. I hope in the real world nobody starts a mountain walk without good safety equipment. 120
Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I watched maybe the last two series of That's Life! (It ended in 1994 when I was 12-13) and liked Esther Rantzen from that (and yes because I hadn't been watching since 1973 I was sad / annoyed it ended when it did) Am sad to read of her death. 111
Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Just read an NHS email suggesting giving 16 month old toddlers lentils and rice to play with. They were also suggesting sugar, flour and custard powder which would be messy but not generally harmful if eaten, unlike dried lentils and rice that cannot safely be eaten without being cooked. 110
Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 15/09/2026If we have cot cams in NICUs (which is probably a good idea) how do we resist arguments that there should be cameras in children's intensive care units? Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 12/07/2026So, the BBC are using the Radio 5 live commentary for the Audio Description of the Wimbledon men's final. That's kind of reasonable (except for the interruptions re the cricket scores) But it's not integrated. The 'accessible feed' on iPlayer has the BBC1 standard commentary. 000

Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 29/03/2026@martinlewis.moneysavingexpert.com - water companies say they report use of their social tariffs as non-standard payment arrangements to the credit reference agencies. What impact does that have on people's ability to obtain credit? 000
Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 26/02/2026Hive mind: please recommend medication reminder apps. I've tried Dosecast and MyTherapy. Both work for a few days and then stop. Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 30/09/2025Maybe a niche question - I know the Socialist Workers Party doesn't have a good reputation in some circles (can't remember why precisely). Does it have any links to stand up to racism or show racism the red card or are they properly separate organisations? (Cross post from mastodon) 020
Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 02/08/2025Sometimes I can't believe what I see; lanyards should always have a safety breakaway so you can't be strangled with your own lanyard. Hanging your telephone from a lanyard with no breakaway is asking for trouble. 010
Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 31/07/2025Back in the day, HMRC's employer's helpline was good - didn't have lengthy waiting times and could answer most questions. Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 04/07/2025So, Young Sheldon, the last three episodes were good but made me cry - (character death and aftermath) (this is a programme I like because it's comedy) 000

Karen McAtamney @kmcatamney.bsky.social · 22/06/2025Reminded why googling song lyrics isn't always a good idea.
