Pay toilets could also raise substantial revenue!

Not all European solutions work in America. This will be exactly as popular as pay toilets….

The last line, oh so close to a historic Joseph Stalin is the part that gets me the most: “How many divisions has the Pope?”
wordhistories.net
history of the phrase ‘How many divisions has the Pope?’
used to pose the dilemma between material power and moral strength, and seemingly to dismiss the latter—from a question allegedly posed by Joseph Stalin

I like it, but by that metric Hochul is going down hard…

I can't believe nobody mentioned the nearly identical quote from Stalin: “How many divisions has the Pope?”

I actually have strong thoughts on a very niche and specialized organization in my Army Branch’s doctrine. I only discovered this week that they still publish the doctrinal magazine. I know I haven’t seen a copy in years…

I think Blue states aren't trending very blue this year. Likely the same anger about inflation and the econpmy.

The beauty of this is that this would also encouraging giving h vote to more people.

Schumer should go out on top and retire while he still has a decade plus left…

Federalism is what stopped authoritarianism last year.

I don't think she makes it in 2030. Shame Schumer is up first because as a Western NYer, I'd rather see her go first. (not that I'm super upset to see AOC run to replace Schumer, would just prefer to see her go first).

One of these moments:

Hard to explain within one skeet, but I hope it gets my point across. The Spiderman maxim (it was great power comes great responsibility) combined with the fact that society has greatly expanded meaning more people need a humanities education.

I read this and made the point to my wife that simply by becoming an Engineer (Among many professions) join the “elite” of society. Now over the years this “elite” has expanded to likely over 50% of the population. Education is key to being a good steward of the society you are an “elite” of!

Chip manufacturing is a water-intensive industry, up there with paper manufacturing. STAMP was specifically designed to support that kind of thing.

Karl @kmannkoopa.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
I chose my words carefully. They don’t use more than say an electronics factory or office complex of the same square feet. It’s not zero water, but it is exactly in line with what STAMP planned for. That’s a lot of water compared to a house or the nothing the site currently uses.

Karl @kmannkoopa.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Water usage at data centers is pure NIMBY con job. Data Centers use about the same water as any non-water intensive industrial use at the same SF. They have closed loop cooling systems that lose a bit due to evaporation. Power usage is another matter. That’s what Data Centers use and abuse.

I actively hate extra time for IEPs and refuse to get them for my kids. As you alluded to in the above post, time is money and there’s a good case that giving extra time is not a reasonable accommodation in the working world.

I for one am encouraged. I don't make it up to the North Country, but there are a lot (and I mean a lot) of beat Tenney signs in NY-24. That's NY’s reddest district (basically the Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse exurbs leaving the metro three districts varying shades of blie.

The US is far to big to have that war. There weren't enough people in the USA to do that, always a flank to go around. The Western Front of WWI (and arguably the Korean War) is an anomaly in troops to cover every bit of land from Swiss to Channel. The Eastern Front of WWI was a war of maneuver.

That’s what this strikes me as. Most Mathematics, especially K-6 level is rote learning and application. Even more so than phonics. You have to know these basic rote functions to go on to do greater things!

I’m convinced that poor test taking needs to be treated anyway. Short time high stakes situations happen somewhat regularly in life and folks should be armed how to handle it. We shouldn’t just accept that some are bad at it and not help them get better.

Women have been allowed to be Engineer Officers since the end of the WAC. Recently all Engineer Officers (Combat Arms) were required to pass the AFT standard as men. I have been pleasantly surprised I haven’t seen it be a problem in my USAR world. Somewhat self-selecting but not the Marines.

This explains the coast, but not the interior where technology led folks people to settle harsher places with better infrastructure. Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse NY get significantly more snow than older settlements like Canandaigua and Auburn. But the Erie Canal advantage offset the weather.

I’m in Monroe County. We had two Democratic Parties (one black and urban, one white and suburban) vying in the 1990s-2010s but Today it’s better. That said, last year we did have committee elections during the primary.

Not Iraq. Iraq today is a reasonably stable Democracy that has held multiple elections. Does it have a ways to go? Yes. Better than under Saddam? Yes. Was it worth the cost in US Dollars and Iraqi lives? Absolutely not! Iraq is the definition of a Pyrrhic Victory in the 21st Century.

After all, the resulting Stimson Doctrine is what set the US on the path to embargos and ending normalized trade between Japan and the USA, the main Casus Belli of the war.

Not 1931 and the ceasefire in between? Why China fought in 1937 and not 1931 is as interesting as why the British didn’t fight over Munich but did over Danzig.

It’s weird to me because the outside of NYC the party nominating committees generally work as intended. Then again, in the rest of the state, the two parties tend not to nominate the same slate of judges (Erie County is a notable exception).

I hate to reuse the same tired arguments that everyone else uses, but the Dems won’t fight for you if you don’t support them. (And yes, sometimes they don’t fight for you) Circling back, what evidence is there Dems will betray trans folks? Even with pro-lifers they didn’t abandon the choice folks.
000
Karl @kmannkoopa.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
The step back is already here as evidenced by the right’s arguments doninating public discourse. The goal needs to be to stop any hard legislation from happening, hence the need for a majority over lockstep agreement.

I’m an elder millennial and saw the tail end of “AIDS is god’s revenge” to the 1990s “Don’t ask, don’t tell” comprise to Civil Unions to Anti-marriage amendments - two steps forward, one step back We are in a step back part of trans rights. Fight to minimize the step. Can’t do it from the minority
020
Karl @kmannkoopa.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Yep, just like Obama and Clinton were against gay marriage in 2008. It’s how the sausage gets made and politics work.
000
Karl @kmannkoopa.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
And that’s where you are wrong. I believe that doing what needs to be done to get a majority and then whipping that majority to support trans rights is more effective than staying in the minority and being unable to stop active votes to reverse progress.
000
Karl @kmannkoopa.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
But a “Supreme Court Judge” said no, how can they appeal? (I live in NY, I just wanted to point out that Supreme Court is actually a low level court)

Karl @kmannkoopa.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
This response makes me sad. To presume that I don’t support trans rights simply because I think winning in more places is more important than having lockstep views that win in some places (like where I am) and not others (like Texas).
000
Karl @kmannkoopa.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
That’s fine, your views actively undermine any chance of progress folks like El-Sayed can push these cowards to do. Cowards in the same party can be pushed to change their views. Cowards in the other party get pushed to support fascism.

Karl @kmannkoopa.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
I assume Michigan is near identical to Western NY where I am. Liberal cities with confederate flags in the countryside. Until the two-party system is broken; the choice is (in your terms) is a weak wishy washy party or an actively hostile party and you are one with the actively hostile party.
000
Karl @kmannkoopa.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
This is the way it’s always been. Republicans in MI and NY do not advocate for more religion or social conservatism in the same way they do down South. Dems can’t run on expanding the welfare state everywhere. Unfortunately trans rights are no different at this moment.
000
Karl @kmannkoopa.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
Particular Dems made some rhetorical choices when pressed but what actions have happened?
000
Karl @kmannkoopa.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
I’m quite sure that Michigan is no more or less supportive than Western NY where I am. What is different is that the NE and Midwest is that we are more civil libertarian than the South. It’s why El Sayed’s stance works in MI but doesn’t work in TX or OH is the place to be angry about, not TX.
