The King Has Fallen, The Kingdom of the Crow book 1, by Aimee Lynn.

The cover has a misty pale blue and gray background with black feathers drifting around. A dark, spiked metal crown is partially visible at the very top and again at the very bottom.

Large, ornate silver-gray text in the center reads:
“the KING has FALLEN”

Below that, in smaller text, it says:
“THE KINGDOM OF THE KROW”

At the bottom center is the author name:
“AIMEE LYNN”

On the right side, in smaller text, it says:
“PERFORMED BY
PAIGE REISENFELD
TONY ISABELLA”

In the top-left corner there is a small label that says:
“Podium”

In the bottom-right corner there is a small number:
“1”

The Weasel War Dance Weasels will sometime perform what appears to be a crazy “war dance” when approaching a prey animal. It is thought that the exaggerated twisting, hopping, and darting about disorients and perhaps even hypnotizes some prey species. Photo Credit NPS

Word of the Day is ‘copemate’ (16th century): the friend in life who gets you through. It’s one of the 365 entries in Words for Life, an almanac of my favourite words and etymologies to give (I hope) each day a boost.

This is Smokey. He was found almost lifeless after surviving a coyote attack. He sustained broken ribs, puncture wounds, and a deflated lung. You can help us cover his life-saving surgery and medical care below ❤️‍🩹 15outof10.org/smokey

a skinny black pup stands on an exam table wearing an enormous blue cone. his head and legs are still covered in fur, but his body is fully shaved.

smokey is cuddled up in a kennel on a pile of blankets and towels. he still has a cone on, but it’s a smaller one, and clear plastic. his body is wrapped in bandages with a lime green and pink pattern. all sorts of tubes run in and out from his little body, and he looks a little embarrassed about the whole ordeal.

smokey is back on the exam table in his giant blue cone, but he’s found an angle that lets the cone block most of his radical haircut. a person with silvery hair stands behind the table and works on a wound on smokey’s side.

This is Ralph. His body composition is approximately 40% ear. But that does not mean he wants to listen to your podcast. 12/10 (IG: ralph_kd0821)

a black and tan dachshund puppy stands in front of a blanket pile and looks at the camera. his long ears hang down lower than his chin, and they’re fanned backwards slightly so you can see their tan interiors and little black tips. his right ear covers up most of his long sausage body so you can just make out his black rump and little tan back paw. his tan eyebrow dots are raised slightly and he’s looking at you with a stoic, closed-mouth defiant expression.

Did you know wolves are absolutely essential for a healthy ecosystem? When wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone the entire system reacted. Small animals became more abundant. Birds began breading more. Rivers changed, small carnivore populations increased. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGGe...

I believe Tolkien said it best

“Frodo: I can’t do this, Sam.

Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?

Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.”

Tolkien
