On this day in 1992, battleship USS Missouri (1944) was decommissioned. Just a year earlier, she saw her final combat action against Iraq in the Gulf War. The iconic ship made history as the site of Japan’s surrender signing on Sept. 2, 1945, ending WWII.

France and the Netherlands have been neighbours since the Treaty of Concordia, which was signed on this day in 1648. This agreement divided the island of Saint Martin between France and the Dutch Republic. A division that remains visible to this day. 🇫🇷🇳🇱

Het tussentijds vervangen van het kanon blijkt erg ingewikkeld te zijn. In beeldvorming niet fijn, maar voor operationele inzet maakt het niet uit. Kanons op schepen worden ook weinig meer ingezet. Het gaat vooral om raketsystemen.

Was al openbaar sinds mei vorig jaar. Het kanon is niet nodig voor de taak die het gaat vervullen: luchtverdediging. Plus je opereert in vlootverband. De vorige luchtverdedigingfregatten hadden geen eens een kanon. Die gingen zelfs naar de Golf.

The 🇳🇱 Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Damen for 3 new patrol vessels for the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard. The cutters will replace ships that are over 25 years old and are expected to enter service in 2029. Four fast interceptor boats will also be delivered to intercept smuggling vessels.

The Dutch Ministry of Defence plans to equip the new Orka-class submarines with the advanced French F21 MK2 torpedo. Due to emerging threats, greater precision is required. The decision also strengthens defence cooperation with France. The first submarine is expected from 2033.
