My latest books cartoon for @theguardian.com
Title: Just announced! Three new Gruffalo books commissioned from bestselling authors!

Lee Chilld:
The Gruffalo just wants a quiet life, but when a crime syndicate moves into the deep dark wood, he must use his terrible claws and the terrible teeth in his terrible jaws to protect the fellow.

Sally Rooney:
The Gruffalo moves to contemporary Dublin. He
ill ever see past his orange eyes, purple prickles and poisonous wart.

Kazuo Ishiguro:
After a long absence, the gruffalo returns to the forest and attempts to make sense of his past. Encounters with a mouse, a fox, an owl and a snake uncover long-buried memories, regrets and revelations.

Here We Go Again – The start of the new academic year
The academic year in the UK is rooted in the Victorian era of education for all but still having to abide by the Harvest and when the children were needed for work on the farms. So, the warmer months were out for schooling, but once the weather got colder and rainier, it was fine for them to have some education. …

Republica 14 in Olhao is just the more gorgeous and welcoming cultural centre I've even been to - and I can't wait to go back!

Republica 14 in Olhao
This gorgeous cultural centre in Olhao is an absolute gem of a find and after my very first visit, I just wanted to move in and never leave! Republica 14 is the Cultural Association of Olhao, and it is housed in the gorgeous old building, that was a very grand house built in the mid 1700s, but moved into the ownership of Sociedade Recreativa Olhanense in 1932, who ran the society until around 2012.

After really enjoying the initial Indie Novella Course earlier this year, I'm now on the 4 week summer course about prepping your novel to send out - and again, highly recommended for those who need a bit of structure in their writing life!

Back to Indie Novella for a Follow On Course
After really enjoying the Indie Novella writing your novel course earlier in the year, I've been accepted onto their short follow on course, which is the 4 weeks over August. Some of the same people are there and what has been great has been the generosity, kindness and critique of the group of writers on the course. Following the initial course, most of us joined a Whatsapp and email group and have been supporting each other across the year, and this has continued into this final short course, which has the aim of getting you ready for sending your novel out, and the considerations that need to be made.

New Story in The Amphibian
I am really pleased that I have got another short story - The Only Place She Ever Lived - in the Memory edition of The Amphibian Magazine. I really like this magazine because it brings together such an eclectic collection of art, poetry and story, always themed, and the hard copies are beautifully produced. It is also a European journal, in English, so it is lovely to be in something that has contributions from across the continent.

The End of the Indie Novella Course
Well, it's flown by, the past nine weeks on the Indie Novella Course. And it has been fantastic, really great and really helpful to me as a writer. The areas it looks out aren't particularly innovative, plotting, pace, character, narrative voice etc, but sometimes you don't need innovative! When you're working on a project, sometimes you just need to be able to have weekly work set for you and to engage with a lesson that helps you concentrate on the writing rather than the million other things that happen every day.

A cartoon reminder that tomorrow is World Book Day (In the UK anyway). Originally for the @theguardian.com
A small girl wearing a rabbit costume and blue coat carries a book as she walks to school.

Her mother (head out of shot) wheels her baby brother along in a pushchair.

The baby says "Peter Rabbit may be the 'Hero' of the story, but surely the obedient, widowed Mrs Rabbit is a more effective symbol of the oppression inherent within Mister McGregor's regime"

The girls looks furious and snaps "Mum!! He's critiquing my world book day costume from a marxist perspective again!"
