Saw @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social at Northwestern University tonight with my daughter on her birthday. Great night. John is a fantastic speaker and genuinely good human. We had a lovely time. Three cheers for books!

Sorry, Sauron, Sir. I didn't mean to roll a 3 right before you declared war against the horse people. Please don't kill me. I fight good. With fist. Grunt grunt.

I'm sorry, but a pint of ale is NOT a low-grade find. It's glorious. Cheers! @middleearth.quest

I just installed @popfeed.social, signed in, and my records from @bookhive.buzz were already loaded. They didn't need to spy on my conversations or use hidden cookies to make it work. This is the power of #atproto. Love it. Well done, Community!

Dear @leaflet.pub , the last couple times I've subscribed to an author, the RSS and Custom Feed links didn't work. They simply point back to the site URL. Wanted to let you know in case it's a bug and you're unaware.

Apparently I'm an orc. From Isengard. The most pathetic kind of orc. I may have to appeal. @middleearth.quest

Olivia Rodrigo onstage at Lollapalooza singing with the Smashing Pumpkins earned me some dad cred with my kids who have been forced to listen to Billy Corgan their entire lives. Rock on.

Imagine in 1994 if someone told you the next time you'd see The Smashing Pumpkins at Lollapalooza would be from home on a TV app made my Disney.

Yesterday, my daughter recommended this @hankgreen.bsky.social game called Smush. I played a few archived boards and scored okay. Today I nailed it. I should probably retire immediately, but it's too fun.

I never grow tired of driving past windfarms. This one is in Central Michigan.

"Everything can be revised, erased, or rearranged later. The courage of creation is making bad beginnings." - Kevin Ashton, How to Fly a Horse
"The first beginning will feel wrong. We are not used to being with ourselves uninterrupted. We do not know the way first things look. We have imagined our creations finished but never begun. A thing begun is less right than wrong, more flaw than finesse, all problem and no solution. Nothing begins good, but everything good begins. Everything can be revised, erased, or rearranged later. The courage of creation is making bad beginnings." (Kevin Ashton, How to Fly a Horse)

Words are hard. #booksky
"In another world, he would have tried to say the right thing. Even with love lying dead on the operating table, yet still the right thing might bring it back to life. But who has ever found the right thing to say? Who, in the history of love, has ever found it, and said it perfectly to the woman standing there?" - The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells, by Andrew Sean Greer.

Love this article. I had a question. In this section, you show bluesky follows and tangled follows. If I was a tangled user and followed several people on tangled, then logged into bluesky, would I be following those same people on bluesky? With the different Lexicons, I assume no, but I'm unsure.

Currently reading 'Apple: The First 50 Years' by David Pogue. It's a fast, fun read, with lots of little stories I've never heard before. #booksky

I've never been a big Apple fan/user, so I can't objectively rank many of the products on the Verge's best Apple products of the past 50 years. But looking at the current live results, how on earth is Final Cut Pro in the top ten? Ahead of the original iPhone and Macintosh? So confused.

Now Playing. Machina by @smashingpumpkins.bsky.social . I often forget how amazing this album sounds on headphones. It gets a bit distorted and noisy in the car, but on headphones you can truly appreciate its acoustic elegance.

From the bookshelf, David Graeber on revolutions...
A quote from David Graeber's book, The Democracy Project. “As the events of 2011 reveal, the age of revolutions is by no means over. The human imagination stubbornly refuses to die. And the moment any significant number of people simultaneously shake off the shackles that have been placed on that collective imagination, even our most deeply inculcated assumptions about what is and is not politically possible have been known to crumble overnight.”

Tesla's mission is to "accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy." The Trump administration is killing funding for climate research and attacking states with laws against coal. How can the Tesla Board justify a CEO entrenched in an administration so antagonistic to its mission?

Trump: "We were the richest relatively -- think of this -- from 1870 to 1913. That was our richest." Incidentally, those were the years America's population had the greatest percentage of immigrants.

I officially played my 1000th game of Wordle this morning. Still a bit upset about that 2% loss rate, but at least I won more games in three guesses than in five. It was close for a while.
