Im other news I am reading a novel in which a character goes for a run in hiking boots, which tells me the author has neither run nor hiked in his life.

Which is to say, take your opinion of other people's gender and shove it up your arse.

I really think the experience of being aggressively misgendered is going to radicalise a lot of cis women in the opposite direction to what terfs expect.

I get it, because there are some fucking obnoxious foreign tourists here including a bunch of Chinese women insisting on swimming costumes. I am being polite about it. The first time some terf tries toilet policing me at home, they are getting *lamped*.

At a remote onsen in the mountains some way south of nowhere. I have been challenged twice on my way into the ladies bath by people who apparently cannot tell if gaijin are male or female (I am 5'6 with short hair).

Here's an early terror for spooky season (especially if you're an editor)
A quite crap plastic Friday 13 mask, which still has the label attached. It reads: "Friday 13 day killer man mask socking horror"

I'm about halfway through my e-ARC of @kjcharleswriter.com 's Think, Write, Edit Romance, and I can already genuinely say this is the best book on writing romance that I've EVER read, and one of my new favorite books on writing in general, too. www.kjcharleswriter.com/all-books/th... #romancelandia

Oh I would be interested to read that! It's unjustly ignored as an artefact of its time (if reasonably justly ignored as literature)

I regret to say this cover is 100% inappropriate to the actual story
Horror cover with giant beetle and fainting woman in vaguely historical red nightie

The first half is fantastic. It falls apart a bit towards the end but absolutely worth a go

The Beetle by Richard Marsh was published the same year as Dracula and outsold it. It is a compact megapack of *every single thing* Victorian empire men were scared of, including but not limited to women, sex, homosexuality, foreigners, gender, race, the end of empire, old things, and new things.

Point being, and I am a negroni in here, that if an *artistic representation* of a humanised AI has made you feel fuzzy towards actual AI, you have missed the point by some hundred miles. Be fuzzy towards the brilliant writers.

Brilliant human artistry makes us see humanity in nonhuman things. So does sticking googly eyes on a pencil. We are an easily confused species in this respect.

Like Me: How can anyone dare not to recognize Murderbot's personhood just because it's a construct? ART is a godlike being! AI agent: Please give my hands work or I will starve Me: lol pathetic spam bot programming

Whenever I think about AI anthropomorphism I come back to Murderbot and the AI in Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, for both of whom I have shed tears. Because a human made them up *really well*.

OUT NOW! The Devouring time is available in ebook and paperback! Bookseller Sterling Caine and investigator Adrian Evans must find out what happened during Sterling’s forgotten year, or all of humanity will pay the price. CLICK HERE: buy.bookfunnel.com/2n2porj6w5
An ebook and paperback stand against an orange gradient. The covers are the same, and feature a cracked clock face against a blue background. Two illustrated death's head hawkmoths flutter around it. To one side, there is a "bug" featuring a light blue vortex surrounded by the words Widdershins Universe. Text reads: Bestselling author of Whyborne & Griffin, Jordan L. Hawk, The Devouring Time, a Widdershins Universe Novel. Beside the books is text reading: Now Available, The Devouring Time. Can a handsome investigator help an amnesiac bookseller regain his memories before it's too late?

There's a fab book that talks about life on the streets in Victorian London and the Mendicity Society that were basically exactly these people, like cartoonishly cruel and absolutely desperate to make unfortunate people's lives worse, *on principle*.

It was all part of the massive car crash that involved the exposure of one of the biggest m/m authors as a lying catfish, included Riptide Press fucking up so badly it made transatlantic news, and ended with the collapse of RWA. That was an...*eventful* period.

You'd hope authors would hold the line. But when Dreamspinner stole the royalties of a ton of authors but kept paying their favoured few (like Damon Suede), those particular authors absolutely took a 'fuck-you-got-mine' stance and got very hostile at anyone calling for DSP to pay up.
