In an attempt to continue to check off criteria without re-watching a film, I have selected X and Pearl as my next set of Original-Sequel films. This sets up an interesting question for the Rules Committee. #61MoviesOfHalloween

That was one of the things I liked about Mololch - it was told primarily from the perspective of a local (albeit one who had lived away and came back). Proving folk horror is not just for tourists anymore! #61MoviesOfHalloween

I think about those two guys occasionally. I've thought about them more often lately. I hope they grew up. I hope they realized that the problem wasn't women, it was their own expectations and sense of entitlement. Not holding my breath, though.

They were attractive enough* but they weren't super fit, they didn't have great hair, no one was asking them to model anything. (And neither of them could really dance for shit, frankly.) *I mean, I thought they looked like schlubs but this story is not really about me.

Imagine being so foolish that you would complain about how you couldn't find a nice girl who likes you, to a nice girl who likes you. Just because that nice girl wasn't model-perfect. I should note that these two guys? Were totally ordinary physically themselves.

They weren't talking about women in general - they didn't mean that all women didn't like "normal guys like them", they meant these gorgeous, lush-haired, big-boobed, perfect-assed women they saw at the strip clubs didn't. As far as they were concerned, those were the only women that mattered.

And these two guys would sit there, talking to these real and wonderful women, who actually liked them, and bemoan how women didn't like "normal guys like them". They would complain about how they couldn't find a nice girl.

Because, you see, the women in this group were really nice people. They were kind and generous and funny and intelligent, and they were attractive, but they didn't look like the women you see in strip clubs.

So, it was a fairly loose connection, but as things usually go with mixed sex groups, crushes happened. Now these two guys, they liked to go to strip clubs. And whatever, no judgment to people who go to strip clubs, but it's relevant to the story.

Our connection to each other in the group was that organic thing, where you do a thing you like, then you meet someone through that who likes that thing too, and then they also like this other thing you like, and through that you meet other people they know that like the second thing.

I have read two stories from this and I didn’t understand either one.

Each episode has two 20 minute stories so #Movie28 and #Movie29 are from the second episode of the series: Dead Air and Renovation. (I had apparently watched the first episode earlier in the year, before I started stockpiling.) #61MoviesOfHalloween

The Terrornauts was a whole lotta something, no spoilers. Moving on, I need some stuff from the 00s and it turns out there's an old anthology show from the Aughts on streaming that I missed back then - Night Visions, somewhat bizarrely, and minimally, hosted by Henry Rollins. #61MoviesOfHalloween

I wanted to like Hive, I really did. But it's just a little too uneven, and while I get that the neighborhood people are supposed to be off, Our Intrepid Heroes also didn't really gel as characters. And there was this whole thing with sugar that didn't make sense. #Movie26 #61MoviesOfHalloween

Guy walks out of his house to put the trash bin on the curb, there’s a wheelie suitcase on the curb already, he takes it inside. Because obviously, you would do that, if you were a lunatic. Sound familiar at all?

And my verdict on Cold Road is I liked it. The main character’s development over the course of the movie felt satisfying while staying realistic. Which, frankly, a lot of movies fail at. #61MoviesOfHalloween #Movie20
