And this is how their existences will be, forever. Alastor knows this for certain.

They will get up in the dimming mornings, they will go to bed each and every darker night. They will do the things they need to do to preoccupy themselves in the days – two square meals, eaten together; idle hobbies; finding which part of the hotel needs maintenance…. and they will survive just for the sake of surviving. Every month Charlie will have her heat cycle, and she will fuck Alastor for one night, maybe two if it’s a bad one.

Or she will tell him not to, becuase she’s hallucinating or because she’s sad, and she will take care of it herself in that incomplete and futile way, and he might linger and listen to her pain.

And then they’ll go back to just being… not friends, not lovers, not truly family. Just companions, in these lonely days.

But it seemed that did stop the worst of Charlie’s hallucinations. And contained the worst of her libido, too – her most manic wants that intruded on Alastor’s existence. And above all, her moments of inconsideration.

Now she only requested sex when she was certain – or as certain as she could be in her tenuous sanity – that she was lucid. When she absolutely needed him. Filtering out any chance of her using him for convenience or enjoyment.

She kept her overt horniness, and her craving love and affection, and missing Vaggi to herself. She let Alastor top; though he never would repeat the dominating assertion of that night when he came back. The memory of her hurt gaze, superimposed with what he knew maman’s disappointment would’ve looked like, stayed his instinct for vengeance.

In fact, Charlie didn’t close her eyes in the act anymore. She watched Alastor as he fucked her.

Maybe, despite the continuing unease, he appreciated that. He couldn't really tell.

Now, he sometimes remained flaccid while inside of Charlie, but it still seemed to do something for her just for him to be inside her. So Alastor walked all the way across what was once Pentagram City, back to the Hazbin Hotel.

He halted at the gates to observe the state of the building after his (he checked his wristwatch) several hour absence. None of the lights were on – not the signage of the Hotel name, not the dim glow that had ever-presently burned in the ground floor windows for the past years, not even in the penthouse at the top.

It made everything about the Hotel look haunting. The great ship’s prow of the east ring now gave the impression of a wreck at the bottom of the ocean. The broken course of train tracks loomed like barbed wire strung above the trenches. The building seemed to sag and droop under its own weight and its inner darkness.

His radio tower had subsided and become crooked, too.

Alastor bounced the key in his hand for a minute, not yet taking another step forward.

He had been violated. This had come to been his home, but he had been violated by Charlie in it. That was a tarnish of memories he’d already repressed the fondness of.

Maybe under the cover of darkness his visit could go unnoticed until he deigned he wanted to be noticed. Charlie had not come to orgasm that night, so he could only deduce that she would still be in heat, and her lust might predominate her better nature again if she saw him.

There he was, second guessing himself. What a weak thing to do.

He wasn’t a coward. He would have power over this situation to see it through, take what was rightfully his – most of all himself. Get some sort of closure if Charlie came to confront him him, and leave.

So Alastor commanded himself to insert the key into the front door keyhole. Only to find the Hotel was unlocked. Unwise of Charlie to leave it like that. Had he not locked it since he left? It ought not have been his responsibility when he was leaving the premises.

(Why, he wondered, was he still sparing that much concern on her?)

He opened the door, stepped into the pitch black lobby, and closed the door behind him.

He did so quietly, and yet as soon as he did, he heard footsteps pounding distantly from upstairs. Then faint gasps and sobs of distress. A sound he was familiar with after all the years. It came closer, and closer, and the cries clarified into words:

“Alastor? Please, please, please be you, oh please be you, Alastor—”

A door on the mezzanine floor burst open with a brief flash of flame. The wall lamps came to life, one at a time, as a silhouette dashed past them, too fast to be lit up by their glow.

And then Charlie turned the corner and came racing down the staircase, her voice a babble of desperate relief. “Alastor!! Oh, thank you, you’re okay, you’re okay, you’re back, you came back…”

She descended the final few steps, and stumbled into the light cast by the coming-back-to-life hotel.

Oh, dear. She looked an absolute mess – still ill-dress…
