Date yourself with a snap of your first ever computer. I used to get second hand Coco magazines and spend hours typing programs into the computer. We had an old cassette recorded with a dodgy motor and bootleg cassette tapes where you would spend 30 minutes to load Donkey Kong 50% of the time.

Hey CNN (us.cnn.com/2026/06/01/t...) tell me you haven't travelled domestically in Australia or New Zealand without telling me you haven't travelled domestically there. We can even bring full water bottles through. 🤯
From article: Allowing non-ticketed passengers through security seems to be limited to US airports, although some airports, like Singapore Changi Airport and Athens International Airport, place their security checkpoints at the gates, allowing visitors to eat, shop and provide assistance to travelers.

Mighty Lamers can break all best things made by professionals. Angular2
along with TypeScript teams have to bear a lot of responsibility thinking
about what influence they made. Supporting AMD modules? SystemJS? Importing
TypeScript in import declarations instead of JavaScript?

You're lamers and you're trying to break NPM world of JavaScript magic.

We were driven by the facts. We created an index that leverages multiple sources. We have PHP at 5.6% adoption rate from a peak at about 20% in 2007. It doesn't mean it will go away anytime soon, but it is no longer a "safe bet" (we have 6 of those at the moment). This is the draft on PHP:
PHP

PHP once dominated the server-side web landscape, powering a large portion of what became known as the Web 2.0 era. Over the years, its frameworks—such as Laravel and Symfony—have evolved considerably, offering modern tooling and robust ecosystems. This ongoing support ensures that PHP remains a viable choice for many existing applications, and large platforms like WordPress continue to rely on it, indicating it’s not about to disappear.
However, there has been a steady decline in new developers entering the PHP talent pool, as industry interest shifts towards alternative server-side environments like Node.js, Python, and others. For organisations basing their core solutions on PHP, it’s prudent to monitor any talent constraints and invest in regular framework upgrades or refactoring efforts to keep pace with modern development standards. While immediate risks might be low, long-term maintainability and future-proofing require proactive planning and careful oversight.

Them: Let's destabilise Europe, put forward displacing 2m people in the middle east, treat certain American's as non-humans, promote racism under the guise of "fairness", erase history because it is uncomfortable, break apart families, cancel science... Democrats: It is all about tax breaks. 😒

Everything Donald Trump and the Republicans have done, all the chaos, all the lawlessness serves one goal:

Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and the Republicans are trying to give their billionaire buddies a tax break and have you, the American people, pay the cost.

Though I have my own skeletons too...
Delphi

Delphi originated as a rapid application development (RAD) tool in the 1990s, offering a then-revolutionary way to build robust Windows desktop applications. Its user-friendly visual design environment and strong performance helped Delphi gain considerable market share at its peak. Over time, however, the industry shifted toward web and mobile platforms, and Delphi struggled to maintain relevance outside the Windows desktop sphere. Despite its decline, Delphi’s influence is still evident in modern languages like C# and TypeScript, which draws on some of its design principles.
Today, Delphi’s footprint is mostly confined to legacy enterprise systems that rely on its RAD capabilities and rich component libraries. Organisations continuing to use Delphi may find it challenging to attract developers with the necessary expertise, likely leading to higher labour costs and increased technical debt. In a due diligence scenario, the presence of Delphi signals a potential need for transition planning or expensive maintenance, unless there is a concrete strategy to migrate to more modern, widely supported technologies.

Writing a white paper at work and touching on languages "past their prime" and thinking of you @kenscambler.me. Being right doesn't mean you win.
Scala

Scala emerged as an effort to bring functional programming to the mainstream on the JVM, combining object-oriented and functional paradigms in a single, statically typed language. Its expressive syntax and powerful abstractions made it appealing to teams looking to build robust, high-performance back-end systems—particularly in the big data arena through frameworks like Apache Spark. However, despite its technical merits, Scala has struggled to reach the broader adoption that some had predicted, in part because mainstream languages (like Java and C#) have gradually incorporated functional features without requiring a major paradigm shift.
For organisations with a core Scala-based solution, the benefits include sophisticated concurrency handling and strong type safety, often leading to more maintainable codebases over the long term. Yet, this strength can also become a challenge: Scala’s steep learning curve and smaller talent pool have consistently translated into higher labour costs. When evaluating a Scala-heavy product, investors and executives should carefully consider the maturity of the engineering team and the language’s role in delivering critical business value. If managed properly, Scala can be a powerful asset; if not, the scarcity of expertise and potential overhead may hamper future scalability or innovation.

The joy of Jupyter notebooks and @deno.land. I knew for a while that a Jupyter kernel was built into Deno, but never had reason to use it, but doing some experimentation with LLMs and RAGs seemed like the right opportunity and what a joy.

The latest version of kview (kview.deno.dev) for @deno.land KV allows filtering of values with a fairly complex query options. To get started: deno run -A -r kview.deno.dev/install

Someone opened a rather terse and rude issue that kview.deno.dev was useless without search capabilities. Still it has inspired me to add a query capability which is now working on the backend APIs, just need to add a user interface!

The latest version of kv-toolbox (jsr.io/@kitsonk/kv-...) for @deno.land KV includes a query/filter API that takes inspiration from Firestore.
import { query } from "jsr:@kitsonk/kv-toolbox/query";

const db = await Deno.openKv();
const result = query(db, { prefix: ["people"] })
  .where("age", ">=", 18)
  .get();
for await (const entry of result) {
  console.log(entry);
}
db.close();

I knew it was easy to upload coverage with @deno.land, but it is also super easy to upload your tests results too. Just add: --junit-path=junit.xml to your `deno test` command and upload the file to your analysis tooling (like @codecov.bsky.social).

Another contribution to @deno.land kv-utils (jsr.io/@deno/kv-utils), the ability to import and export data from Deno KV in new line delimitated JSON, which allows for streaming. An example of exporting entries as an HTTP response where the key starts with ["person"]:
import { exportEntries } from "@deno/kv-utils";

const db = await Deno.openKv();
const server = Deno.serve((_req) =>
  exportEntries(
    db,
    { prefix: ["person"] },
    { type: "response" },
  )
);

Deno KV has limits on the size of keys, values and transactions. The estimate size utility can be incorporated in libraries to help provide a better end user experience by determining if something is likely to fail before attempting the transaction and catching the error:
import { estimateSize } from "@deno/kv-utils";
import { assertEquals } from "@std/assert";

const value = { a: new Map([[{ a: 1 }, { b: /234/ }]]), b: false };
assertEquals(estimateSize(value), 36);

Or if you wanted to take a value that was serialized to JSON in a browser and store it directly into Deno KV. Like if you wanted to capture errors in the browser and store them in Deno KV with all of their information as an error:
import { toValue } from "@deno/kv-utils";

const db = await Deno.openKv();

Deno.serve(async (req) => {
  const json = await req.json();
  const value = toValue(json);
  await db.set(["a"], value);
  return new Response(null, { status: 204 });
});
100
Kitson Kelly @kitsonkelly.com · 16/11/2024
At the moment serializing keys and values to JSON is possible. For example to provide an API endpoint that serves up serialized versions of a Deno KV entry:
import { entryMaybeToJSON } from "@deno/kv-utils";

const db = await Deno.openKv();

Deno.serve(async (_req) => {
  const maybeEntry = await db.get(["a"]);
  const json = entryMaybeToJSON(maybeEntry);
  return Response.json(json);
});
