We need a lot of reforms to Congress, but term limits would be disastrous. They’d transfer even more power and influence to the Presidency, staffers, lobbyists, etc.

All but seven House Republicans voted to continue Trump's disastrous Iran War. It's one of the most unpopular conflicts in U.S. history, and it's doing nothing to advance our national interests while making everything more expensive for the American people.

If (when, let's say when) Democrats take the Senate in November, I fully expect both Thomas and Alito to immediately resign from the Supreme Court to allow Trump to ram through replacements before the majority changes on January 3.

This would be devastating to America's economy. It is a *good* thing that the best and brightest from around the world want to come to America to study and that many of them stay here and build great companies in America instead of abroad. Everything Trump does makes us weaker and poorer.

As one of the legislators who asked the SCC to do so, I am happy that they are expanding the ways Virginians can weigh in on the proposed merger. Virginians’ concerns about rates, infrastructure costs caused by large power users, and environmental standards must drive the consideration process.

Last month, I sent a letter asking the SCC to hold in-person public hearings across Virginia regarding the proposed Dominion/NextEra merger. Last night, I attended @ltgovhashmi.bsky.social's Richmond listening tour meeting. It is essential that the voices of Virginians be heard regarding this deal.
Letter from Delegate Kirk McPike:

August 24, 2026
State Corporation Commission
P.O. Box 1197
Richmond, VA 23218
RE: Request for in-person public hearings regarding Case No. PUR-2026-00112
Dear Chair Bagot, Commissioner Hudson, and Commissioner Tow ell:
I am writing to request that the Commission add a series of in-person public hearings at locations
across the Commonwealth to the review process for Case No. PUR-2026-00112, the proposed
merger between NextEra Energy and Dominion Energy.
As Commission members are aware, this proposed merger would create the largest electric utility
company in the world and affect residents across Virginia. The review of this $67
billion proposal is the most important work the Commission has undertaken in years, and the
ramifications of its final decision will be felt for generations. For that reason, I believe adding in-
person public hearings to the already scheduled series of telephonic hearings is essential.
The rising cost of energy is weighing heavily on Virginia’s families. I applaud the Commission’s
recent decision to require Dominion to ensure that large-load users, such as data centers, pay for
the electrical transmission infrastructure they require. In doing so, the Commission responded to
concerns raised by Virginians. I believe that a broader engagement process would allow the
Commission to similarly weigh the thoughts and needs of Virginians when considering the
proposed merger. At a time of growing electrical demand and instability in the global energy
economy, Virginians deserve that level of engagement and transparency.
Further, my constituents are particularly concerned that the requirements of the Virginia Clean
Economy Act (Acts of Assembly 2020, Chapter 1193) be met on the legally mandated schedule.
Balancing the need to protect Virginians from large rate increases while undertaking the
infrastructure construction and sourcing changes needed to achieve 100% carbon-free electrical
generation for customers currently…The purpose of this letter is merely to address the specific process question of adding in-person
public hearings to the comment process for this case. It should not be considered a comment on
the merits of the proposal itself.
Thank you for the efforts you have already undertaken to solicit input from impacted
Virginians regarding the proposed merger, and for your work on behalf of our Commonwealth as
members of the State Corporation Commission.
My staff and I would be happy to help facilitate in-person public hearings in or near my
district regarding this merger. Please do not hesitate to contact us about this or any other matter
at delkmcpike@house.virginia.gov.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.

I hope everyone is weathering the post-storm blackouts okay. Jason and I live at the intersection of three of them, it seems. Alexandrians deserve more reliable service than this, but I’m very skeptical that the proposed merger would lead to more of a focus on highly local concerns like this.

Can we please dispense with the idea that "prediction market" sites are anything but straight up gambling? There's no special wisdom underlying these "predictions." They are just bets that can be gamed by insiders. These aren't investments markets. It is gambling and should be regulated as such.

This is so cynical and evil that you’d think even a company like Kalshi would never allow it. And yet…. The “prediction market” industry produces nothing of value to society. It’s a crass effort to monetize economic desperation and profit off of human misery. futurism.com/health-medic...

Happy Loving Day, Alexandria. Alexandria played a small part in one of the most significant civil rights rulings in American history, Loving v. Virginia. Visit the historic marker at the corner of Pitt and King St. in Old Town to remember that love wins 💕
A black and white photo of two smiling individuals, Mildred and Richard Loving, is overlaid with text and a blue emblem. The text reads "June 12 is Loving Day" with additional historical context about the Lovings' legal battle for interracial marriage rights.A historical photograph depicts a family sitting on the steps of a porch. Two adults and three children appear together. The accompanying text describes June 12, 1967, when Mildred and Richard Loving received news that the Supreme Court ruled in their favor, impacting their lives and the country. The image features text discussing the landmark decision in Loving v. Virginia, which struck down Virginia's ban on interracial marriage, citing a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution. It highlights that their victory is a reminder that love knows no boundaries, and all love is welcome in Alexandria.A historic marker stands on the sidewalk with tree-lined buildings in the background. The marker honors the Loving's legacy, located at Pitt and King streets in Old Town.
