Do you get compensation if there's a 'demonic child' on your flight? Asking for a friend. boingboing.net/2018/02/12/d...

Demonic child screams and runs through an 8 hour flight from Germany to Newark

Begging any of the middle-aged men pontificating on forums about the CBeebies Dr Who series to sit down and watch an hour of CBeebies output. Genuinely. It'll only take an hour.

I think it's fair to say the people in my household (mixture of kids and adults) found the Sabrina Carpenter special pretty limp (apart from the bits with SB and Miss Piggy tbf) and got far more enjoyment out of the Muppets Now series from a few years back.

Congratulations chaps! I've been a listener since 2008 and have got a lot out of your podcast over the years. Re your discussion of 'Baby Doctor Who' I just wanted to quote something I posted on GB a few weeks ago, in response to someone musing that a lot of DW fans haven't seen much CBeebies...
Yes, and I think this works both ways. OK, a CBeebies Dr Who series isn't going to have the same depth/scope as the main show has. But equally plenty of shows on the channel which have a similar runtime (ie 11 mins) manage to pack a lot of story, characterisation and nuance into each ep. I feel like some people, who quite understandably haven't seen much/any CBeebies, think of it as wall-to-wall Teletubbies and In The Night Garden whereas it's also home to Bluey, Old Jack's Boat, Go Jetters, Kiri and Lou*, Clangers etc.

I feel/hope we're going to be pleasantly surprised by what this version of the show is capable of.

*which, granted, is an import but still fits very well within CBeebies' offering.

It honestly pains me to say this, as LH was one of my favourite artists for a long time, but his last handful of albums have just been No Good. I think the last one I enjoyed was the woodland animals one (and the one before it, the wrestling one, was fab).

Then I became father to a newborn baby and it was exactly as you describe above. 'So I have to do all this stuff /every/ day? And there's no exceptions? ALL this needs doing EVERY day?'

Before our daughter came along, I was* stepfather to my wife's son, who I met when he was four and was with us 50% of the time (and at his dad's the other 50%). 'This parenting lark's not so hard!' I thought to myself. 'I seem to be doing pretty well at this!' *I mean, I still am

Hi John - I thought your name rang a bell and then realised it's because we have a copy of Tricycle at home - my wife was at Liverpool at same time as you and used to be involved in the poetry nights at The Egg.

I had each album on individual CD in the early nineties. Then the boxset (mentioned below) came out, containing each album with bonus tracks tacked on the end of each disc. A few years after that the boxset version of each album (ie full album then bonus tracks) seemed to become the default

I think it's really important to remember that excommunication is a very serious sanction which the church only imposes on people who've done something heinous like *checks notes* marrying a divorcee.

It's funny, I bought this on cd years ago after some magazine recommended it. Listening to it all the way through While Properly Trying To Take It In I didn't get much out of it. But just a few weeks ago they played it on R3 and hearing it drifting in the background I felt I finally GOT it.

The “French Beach Boys”, Les Garçons de la Plage, from The Rutles.
(I could also have had Arthur Hodgson & The Kneecaps, Crosby Stills Nash Young Gifted & Black or indeed the Rutles themselves!)

BTW I lurked/posted very occasionally on CaB for years and years, then left because of the unpleasant environment a number of posters had created. I looked in on the forums a few months ago and was delighted to see the change. You deserve great praise for changing the culture there. Thank you.

I’m a fan of the other two eps obviously, and if I had to include them in the ranking they’d be Electricity in fifth place (I’ve never been all that arsed about the mythos) and Transport in sixth place (I don’t like the train thing).

Laughs, horror, great songs and even a bit of pathos. Fave Bit: Duck’s uncontrollable pissing. Or his heart rolling across the floor. Fave Line: ‘Goodbye to you…David.’ Or: ‘I made it myself. On the computer!’

Fave: Death. One of the best half hours of sitcom ever made. Up there with The Poetry Society, The Contest and Communication Problems. If I had any reservations about the transition from short YouTube videos to sitcom, they were obliterated here.

2nd Friends: Great to see the Computery Guy again, love Warren The Eagle. Some of the Brain Friends sections go on a bit. Fave Thing: Yellow Guy’s face when he notices Shy Imaginary Elder Brother during the final song. Fave Line: The entirety of the Brain Worm song. And ‘Freelancers deserve to die!’

Third Place: Family: Given that much of it is based around a trope I’m really bored of (creepy family w/ a ‘secret’) there’s so much I love here. Everything from when Yellow Guy wakes up to the end of the ep is just mighty. Fave Thing: the paper plate chicken mask. Fave Line: ‘THAT one’s the DAD???’

Fave eps from the Channel 4 version of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared... Fourth Place: Work: A great season-opener, giving a gentle (by comparison with some of what comes after it) introduction to the series for new viewers. Fave Thing: ‘The Ultimate Forgiveness’ Fave Line: Mr Peterson’s ‘Whatta guy!’
