Season 2 of the live action Avatar series makes a lot of confusing and unnecessary changes worsen things. Even season 1 it never felt like they understood the cartoon as a whole or even more granular like specific episodes and moments, but at least season 1 stuck close enough to still be decent.

Begging film and T.V. to stop using 4:3 anytime they want something to feel old or historical regardless of the year. It makes no sense to switch to 4:3 for a scene set in the 1700s.

Was the Mario Galaxy movie made to specifically be clipped for Tiktok? I do not think a single scene or story beat lasted more than two minutes.

Exclusives made sense in the past when you had not only first party but a plethora of third party too. Current Sony puts out so few first party games a year and I doubt many third parties want to go exclusive so I find it hard to believe that a handful of exclusives moves the needle for most people.

Starfleet academy is so unnecessarily noisy in so many ways I cannot understand how anyone allowed this. The lighting, sets, alien and ship designs all of it needs to be toned down.

This does a good job of touching on a feeling I have had for awhile: For all the complaints people have about the game awards not being more artistically inclined, I think the people who complain about this are largely hypocritical because if they wanted better it is out there.

Embarrassing. We obviously need better frameworks to allow use of copyright materials and to reduce the current doctrines around "canon" and "official" artistic works. But watering down your works like this is terrible idea.

Latest chapter of Chainsawman having Denji say "my high school educated genius brain" is a perfect example of the actual genius of the series writing.

Nice to hear people talk about the lack of new blood in games media. Definitely feels like wider games coverage is lacking perspective from people who did not grow up playing games in the 90s.

This might be one of the dumbest conspiracy theories out there, how would you even hide something that recent. Photography was prominent and even video was becoming widespread.

Just an incredible quote. The kind of thing a person says who has no ability to actually appreciate art and can only understand the world through the lens of everything being a transaction.

One thing we are not talking about enough is how many of the reasons that large companies have been able to see the continual growth they have are coming to an end and that none of them seem to have plans for what to do when growth is no longer possible. Talking things like:

The inverse relationship between phone screen resolution increasing and app icons becoming painfully simplistic is plain sad. In 2025 we should be swinging back the other way and making icons and logos more complex.

One thing I see talked about somewhat frequently is how shifting from forums to places like Discord has ruined search-ability for communities, but a similar issue I rarely see talked about is how webcomics moving from personal websites to social media has ruined their readability.

The parts of Transformers One that are focused on the usual lore and more serious tone are good, the quippy comedy bits are generic and could be from a completely unrelated series. Kind of a bizarre film, leaves me wondering how good it could have been sans the attempted humour.
