An update on the construction progress of Kingston's two new Cycleways

Progress of Kingston’s new Cycleways – August 2026
Construction of Kingston's two new Cycleways continues... Ewell Road (Cycleway 29) When this Cycleway is finished, it create a safer cycle route from Tolworth all the way to Kingston Station. The route will be be made up of mostly separated cycle tracks along the 2.5 mile route. Since construction finished at Elgar and Princes Avenue junction, the building crews have moved to the junction of Ewell Road with Kingsdowne & Ditton Road.

Sunday 24th May, It seems like me the Weather gods, didn't realise this is a Bank Holiday, as a gorgeous Sunny day, although maybe too hot for some, after 4 late cancellations, 1 no show for group 2 & 1 late booking, 17 Cyclists split into 2 groups, left via the Beeline, Raynes park, South Wimbledon, the Wandle trail, Earlsfield, Wandsworth Common, Clapham Common, Stockwell, Vauxhall, Vauxhall Bridge, to Piimlico for lunch at the White Swan (McMullens), a very busy Westminster, Cyccleway 3 (C3), Southwark Bridge, C7, C14, C10, Burgess Park, Loughborough, a busy Brockwell Park, Tulse Hill, Streatham Hill, to Tooting Bec Common for very welcome refreshments at the San Remo Cafe,- now just 1 group- Tooting, - with a Police incident closing our intended path (dotted Red line on Map)-, Mitcham, Morden Hall Park, Morden, Morden Park, Lower Morden, Motspur park, to finish back in New Malden.

Sunday 12th April, with a blustery Headwind, 1 person lost somewhere in the town, 16 Cyclists left via Portsmouth Rd,- joined by 1 more, alas that person had a visit from the 'P fairy', decided to head for home-, Giggshill green, alas a small tumble for 1 of the group, seemed to be OK at first, but a little later, deciding the swelling needed attenttion, another abandon 😒-, Weston Green, Esher, Walton- joined by 1 more (17)-, Weybridge, Addlestone, Bretlands, Homewood Park- a brief but heavy Hailstorm, more or less over by the time everyone had donned Waterproofs-, Foxhills, Gracious Pond, Burrowhill, to West End, (also known as Donkey town?) for lunch at the Hare & Hounds, (Hall & Woodhouse),very speedy service thanks to our pre-orders 👍, Pennypot, Chobham, Foxhills- from the other direction-, Ottershaw, Addlestone, Weybridge, Cowey Sale (Photo), to Walton Bridge, - to find the planned Tea stop had a few power problems, but fortunately the nearby Boathouse Cafe was fine, Walton, Molesey, Thames Ditton, Portsmouth Rd, to finish back in Kingston.

How does this rain garden work, then? There's a ~25mm upstand of granite that stops rainwater getting to the planted area on the south side, but water can flow in from the north side. Has this been implemented correctly? Lots and lots of stone in the "soil" too.

NEWS: Contractors working for Kingston Council almost filled in the large pothole on Latchmere Road 🙄
A pothole that has been perhaps 80% patched. Lots of large stones l, about 40mm-50mm in size that came out of the hole are spread around the road surface.
