I’ve made time to tuck into Manly Wade Wellman’s John the Balladeer stories after finding out about him from a @schweizercomics.bsky.social drawing a while back. It’s great, classic weird tales-style fiction set in Appalachia and written in that dialect. This particular line goes pretty hard.

“They brag they don’t believe in no devil? All right folks, they’ll plumb believe before they get through with me. I’ll give them the Devil- I’ll give them hell with the lid off and the bottom of it a-shining right up into their faces!”

I like the idea of gearmakers in the world of LoLM having shamanistic roles and abilities while still being very pragmatic craftspersons. Less inclined towards pageantry (they leave that to their clientele), but with a clear understanding of the mysticism of masking and the Road To Glory.

Just seen a Kickstarter trying to charge 13 quid for a 50-odd page PDF?? I understand the need for higher prices on print books and shipping, but I dunno how those factors apply to digital goods. Digital goods are zero overhead so you price low to get more pledges in the door? What am I missing?
