Imo we should just upzone everything asap Everything within city limits that allows residential should allow at least 10 floors, with ground floor mixed use by right And no kneecapping it with excessive setbacks or anything like that, properly high density

Ride a train to the ballpark, it is impossible to get to Wrigley without passing a cta line

Is it a limitation of the visualization tool to not show bus stops for southbound in the median?

They do also want a bid for a cut down version, with only a 2 track, 32 car yard

They also wanted bids for a cut down version with just tracks 1 and 2, for a total of 32 cars. Presumably purely to support the yard

Yep, this from is the RFQ to build the yard and shops. For comparison 98th has a capacity of 234 cars The shop is also designed for only 8 car sets, so 10 car red line is dead

Lack of PSDs is a disappointment, IBX should be automated with maximum frequency to reduce the transfer penalty and improve usability as an orbital connecting line Without that is it even worth introducing a new rolling stock standard to the MTA? Consider Using A division for economies of scale

Yea, if divvy lets you avoid owning a car it is 100% worth it I just wish it was cheaper so it would make sense for people that have cars to use them less too

king-br0k.bsky.social @king-br0k.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
I wish it was more in line with other major city's bike share systems cost wise as someone who has a car is is cheaper to drive than DIVVY

I am not sure running 24h service on the brown line would be healthy for the old Ls, they need the time for maintenance

and that area is getting federal investment under his presidency standard political stuff i don't get why they are against the jobs and investment in their community (with concessions about noise and emissions, like 95% T4 after 2035 or something) loosing the sox is a bigger deal, but separate

What about rebuilding thr north leg and getting into millennium? They will need a tight turning radius on the trains to get into the terminal loop per renders and maps so might be able to do it without needing demos Would impact mark Twain park Perhaps a small tunnel?

I mean, I don't think it is realistic to hit that time regardless without going to full high speed

an increase to 110 in the fully grade separated areas, along with the few rural sections would be good to add if you are electrifying the line it is worth it to modernize the signals at the same time IMO

What is the planned max operating speed? The route distance seems to be about 20 miles, which would would need to average 80 mph to achieve the advertised 15 min runtime. What methods will you be using to hit that high of an average speed in an urban area? Where do you intend to build a VMF? thanks

I won't be able to attend (have class) but have a few questions I would like asked The maps and renders seem to show them using Union station and the ATS at ORD. Is that the plan and has there been coordination with Amtrak, Metra, and the City to access these facilities and add needed capacity?

TPTB?

king-br0k.bsky.social @king-br0k.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
0 local emissions is nice and all (especially when the baseline is Metra's current locomotives) but with overhead power you can do so much more than just that
000
king-br0k.bsky.social @king-br0k.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
It is a shame we haven't electrified any other lines since The only thing we are getting now are battery trains for the beverly service, which while nice do not bring the transformational increases in speeds that conventional electrification dose All full service metra lines meet would justify it

I wish @starlinechicago.bsky.social and the idea of a Metra RER / S bahn in general got half the attention this O'Hare Flyer got it would be so much more impactful for the city to have a connected frequent regional rail system than an express downtown - airport link paralleling the blue (and NCS)

king-br0k.bsky.social @king-br0k.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
it doesn't seem well thought out at all travel time seems unreasonably short the O'Hare station taking over the People mover is... suspect "Near the old post office" makes me think they plan on Union but Amtrak + Metra Laughed them out of the room O'Hare Local along the NCS would be far more useful

brings high quality rail service to all the communities on the northwest side that only get inconsistent metra service currently while being relatively cheap and easy to implement

king-br0k.bsky.social @king-br0k.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
what about O'Hare Local Rapid transit style service from Union to O'Hare transfer (with an ATS extension?) using additional units of the battery FLIRTs Metra has on order takes over the minor stops from MD-W and NCS allowing them to express into the city, and NCS to be the ORD express ish

100% But how often will the new bears stadium even be hosting games and events? 10 NFL games a season if you are lucky, and soldier field will be the better venue for concerts, as it will focus on that Soccer will have McDonald's park

king-br0k.bsky.social @king-br0k.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
with good transit access on Red, Green, and Metra we don't need the crazy amount of parking, especially inefficient surface lots one or two big parking structures should suffice, with the rest of the land able to become a stadium district with housing and amenities

king-br0k.bsky.social @king-br0k.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
i mean, the bears could join the sox at 35th on entirely publicly owned land The area north of sox field between 35th and 33rd, the rail yard and the dan ryan is ~30 acres The newest NFL stadium, Highmark in Buffalo is only 15 even a monster retractable roof stadium like AT&T in Texas is only 22
