The ACLU weighed in on Trump’s decision to federalize the National Guard as an “inflammatory abuse of power. This action puts Angelenos in harm’s way, exposes troops to legal and ethical consequences, and shreds a fundamental democratic principle, that the military has no place policing civilians.”

And some of the most impacted? Journalists, forced to repeatedly shout, “Don’t shoot, we’re just reporters,” as they were targeted with tear gas and crowd-control rounds.

Let’s look at the facts: DHS claimed there were “about 1,000 rioters,” but Reuters couldn’t independently verify that number. Meanwhile, flash-bangs used against peaceful protesters ignited one of the fires captured in widely shared photos.

- Trump placed the National Guard under federal control (Title 10), bypassing state authority a rare and provocative move that violates the Tenth Amendment unless the Insurrection Act is formally invoked.

Facts: - Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass both publicly stated they did not request National Guard assistance. - Under normal circumstances, National Guard deployment requires state approval unless the Insurrection Act is invoked, which Trump has not done.

The National Guard has arrived in Los Angeles, but they were not requested by California. Both Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass made it clear that the state did not authorize or want federal troops deployed.

A few years ago we started a foundation that sponsors shelter dogs with medical needs to make them more adoptable. We have done truly incredible things with your help and we hope to continue that here on Bluesky. Please go give @15outof10.org a follow! ❤️‍🩹

in an archival photo, WeRateDogs founder Matt Nelson, a man with curly hair wearing a long-sleeved shirt, snuggles over on a blue couch to wrap an arm around his senior German shepherd, Doug. Doug is smiling and wearing a bright pink bandana. one of his ears has a signature wonky fold. they both look excited about the project they're launching.
