it's not streaming anywhere and you'll have to import Japanese Blu-Spec CDs, but I have to get on my soapbox about Agharta/Pangaea; they remixed the albums for CD to make the whole band clearly audible, but imo the original mix that the aforementioned CDs recreated better suits the music

Reading Ancient Evenings because of my own ancient Egypt literary project, and I really was underprepared for "protagonist's spirit is forced to fellate his great-grandpa who shares his name (through multi-chapter flashbacks) in a literalization of Jungian archetypes"

Truly think that a good 20% of my issues stem specifically from the fact that, when Mom had DHS remove me from her custody (I was 7), she had me watch The NeverEnding Story (for the first time!) with her. In ten minutes I went from watching a horse drown to locking myself in the bathroom.

RFKJr. says autistic people will never write a poem, when I woke up today and started a cougar-themed verse to the tune of Black Man by Stevie Wonder
Moon is out tonight
Climate just right
For a cougar

Going out late
Knowing that it's fate
To meet a cougar

I need to be pounced
Pixar lamp-bounced
By a cougar

Give me something strong
‘cause the wait has been too long
For my cougar

I’ve been searching
All my life
For a MILF to strap me down
And be my wife
Elastigirl started it all
Made girls my age invisible

The Killer Khan bio is my best work, but I think Yoshimura is my most important piece: a journey through early puroresu that isn't dominated by Rikidozan, Baba, or Inoki. Very excited for the new eyes that Charles will bring to my work.

Fighter Fujimoto's JWA became affiliated with the Doshisha Pro Wrestling Alliance, a student puroresu club at Kyoto's Doshisha University. The DWA had superior resources, for their vice chairman happened to be the wealthy heir to a tea ceremony school. (Only in Japan.)

3 days after the Tokyo Sports show, on a house show in northern Osaka, Tiger Jeet Singh put his hands on a yakuza boss who didn't get out of the way in a crowd brawl. It was company policy to compensate ¥30k in these cases, but it almost got ugly. ("Bring Singh! I'll kill him!")

Otsuka explains why puroresu promotions stopped running several of Tokyo's buildings in the 70s, such as the Itabashi, Adachi, and Taito Ward Gymnasiums: the administration of Tokyo governor Ryokichi Minobe started to block prefectural facilities from professional bookings.

The manufacturer initially didn't want to make an iron fence, so they started with a wooden one. The iron fence forced NJPW to reduce the amount of pamphlets and other goods they sold, because the fence would otherwise take their truck over weight.

NJPW started using the fence to protect the audience (and create a new finish type) in June 1979. It had already been pitched, but what made it happen was an incident on a televised show that February, when a fan came to the ring and hit Tiger Jeet Singh with a chair.

It took a week for the dohyō to be filled back up after an NJPW show, so they couldn't book the venue too soon before a sumo tournament.

Cameren Lee @kinchstalker.bsky.social · 18/10/2023
NJPW built a special ring for use at the Kuramae Kokugikan. They couldn't set up the ring over the sumo dohyō without the corners sticking out, and cutting those corners was a problem when the ring was held together by wires going from one pole to the other.

There were tentative plans for NJPW to run Honolulu in the summer of 1980, through promoter Mike Maeda. Otsuka shot it down after a research trip, because the ticket prices would have topped at ¥3000 (roughly $13 at the time), which would have been a loss. He regrets this now.
