#Dressmaker is #anti-AI and you can tell the #game human-made, so much so that the people who play it like to fill in voices for the characters, which is super entertaining. If my big computer was functional, I'd probably play it.

I was looking for genuine leather shoes and then I realized that they don't make leather shoes anymore, but plastic ones to pollute the sea with every year. And now genuine leather shoes have shot up in price to sometimes 100-300 dollars. They are built to *cough* last.

You learn about Goguryeo and how Koreans liked to retcon history so older kingdoms were renamed by the newer ones pretty much the first week or two of class. And you know about the hanja and about the fact it's a posthumous name much later. The hanja does not mean "Korea".

Because Germans use Deutschland and Deutsche Menschen is German people. As much as I hate Chinese nationalism, I'd trust a Chinese nationalist to get the details of Goguryeo right over a mediocre white guy. Dude, you learn the word for Korea in Korean first day of Korean language class.

Guryeo does not mean Korea, this would be like insisting that Germans call themselves Bismark and German battleship Bismarck is proof of the age of the empire. And then lecturing to someone German that they are not German because the German is rolling their eyes and telling you ya wrong.

As I've said before the problem is white men using white power to make idiotic remarks, not all white men, but enough that the comment mediocre white men are too sure about everything. I've seen white men use their power to take down other white men and it's glorious. I can watch hours of that.

How to show yourself to be a white man to a #Korean. lol Korea, as a word is indeed a cognate of the word Guryeo, because this is roughly when the whites had contact with Korea. BUT this is not what Korea calls itself. Hanguk is the name Korea traditionally calls itself...
Are you even Korea? You don't even know the actual meaning of Goguryeo. It's not close to Korean. It is Korean.

There was a reason for the temperance movement later and the story of the woman who was getting abused by her husband in the Victorian era wanting to divorce her husband. Drunkards made horrible husbands.

Travelling to the continent made you cultured. Being a rake was a cad, a bad boy in a negative sense, a moral ingrate. Someone who drank and gambled ruthlessly. A woman did not want to marry a rake. He was likely to be a drunkard that gambled everything away.

김윤미 Kim Yoonmi (Surname First) @kimyoonmi.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
I looked up the history of the word "rake" and it doesn't mean "f*ck boy" like a lot of #HistoricalRomance writers make it out to be. Nor does it mean "cultured". The standout story from the era is two men, naked, in the red district simulating s*x with each other on a balcony while drunk.

OBVIOUSLY, all humans eventually lead to Africa. So this insular myth is a farce at best and if they paid attention in history class for a blinking second they'd know that other groups also had an influence.

I have beef with the idea that Koreans were so insular for all of time they magically appeared out of nowhere which is what a lot of the nationalists like to argue. Or the even shakier, core group of Koreans are related to the Manchus, who populated the area much later.

There is additional erasure around the Imjin War and subsequent invasions from Qing Empire. The "Honorable" woman's list doesn't list the "Honor killings" or the women who refused to do it.

#Koreans tend to like to lie that Koreans had no outside influence to the ethnic group for all time. This includes totally having amnesia about Goryeo being lead by a King that was part Mongolian. It's infuriating when the public government and contradict them on the origin of the surnames.

FINALLY. I saw this was true on tumblr. Also, the ACLU and Planned Parenthood should give up fighting for child marriage. ACLU talks about the evils of Epstein, but won't stop fighting for child marriage? Choose a side. Both are child abuse. calmatters.org/politics/202...

A quick reminder that Amerigo Vespucci was a fraud... that's likely why Trump admires the name. In this case history totally rhymes. www.historynewsnetwork.org/article/what...
In terms of connotations, America today has become one of the worst names that a hemisphere, and a particular country, can have. The USA is the only country in the hemisphere that actually calls itself “America.” Clearly, that alone is enough to conjure up all sorts of embarrassment and all sorts of resentment among other communities in the New World. Then there is the fact that the name is loud with imperial resonance which has been imposed on this hemisphere from outside. Amerigo Vespucci, finally, is a rather embarrassing namesake, who, though a hero to some, is a villain to many, denounced as a charlatan or a fraud, a cuckoo who nested in Columbus’s rightful glory. Nowadays, corporations and even countries seem always to be changing their names in pursuit of an enhanced image. If rebranding consultants were to look at America, they would say, "You’ve got to change the name. ‘The United States of America’ presses the wrong button, sets up the wrong vibes. Call it something politically correct. Change it to the United States of Turtle Island."

Why do people need to literally die and suffer for our art and let rich studios benefit unequally, but only for art? Creatives probably share knowledge and give other creatives a leg up more than any other industry to break in and be something, yet the workers are called snobbish?

It used to be a treat to see the practical effects on a show and learn how things were made... but now people are upset, raging upset when the artists that made them say they were not fairly compensated by the rich moguls that got the benefit. I thought you all were against the 1%ers.

My thread on a knitting group was locked a few years back b/c I reported the scarf from a TV show was likely knit in a few stages by the production team, and not by the actor. But the same people will get mad when they call crochet knitting. Usually they make more than one. It's a rule. So angry.

Behind the scenes used to be a treat that you get to watch to figure out shows/ #movies and what the working environment on a production was like. But increasingly people are angry at the workers reporting their favorite shows might have had hostile working environments or how things were made.

So wings as in wings of houses are generally capitalized. But the rooms are not, unless given a proper name by the tenants. But I kinda feel it's inconsistent this way. West Wing, East Wing, but parlour, drawing room, The Green Room.

Consensus does not have to be universal for something to be mostly true and generally move the story along. Humans love to dissent and build up false narratives.

Writing tip: Your characters do not all have to uniformly agree on who a character is. That will give dimensionality to the story. If M thinks H is a great person, but G thinks H is a horrible person, and so on, this makes the story quietly more dynamic. #WritingCommunity

I can't believe that Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey is number 2 or 3 on banned of all time. It's mild compared to the Bible's contents.* But in the top positions for this year are LGBT and an examination of s*x sl*very because people don't want to examine the world around us. #BannedBooksWeek

And since I missed yesterday... Hmmm... Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger. I remember reading it all in one night. Even though Holden Caufield treats women poorly in the book, I kinda felt that the processing of trauma was gripping. I related to it more than Ordinary People by Judith Guest.

#BannedBooksWeek! I read Beloved by Toni Morison in College. I was aching to read it before then, but wasn't given the chance. The wordsmithing is A caliber. The quiet way trauma affects the characters feels like what would be called generational trauma before the term. #Books #WritingCommunity

I only do it to avoid the algorithm censors or when I'm limited by word/character count. I make a lot of grammar errors when I'm trying to fix character count and then mess up the rephrasing. 😅 But yeah, my Neurodivergent/diverse self prefers the spelled out words when possible in more formal text.

BTW, I'm not kink shaming BDSM. That's CONSENSUAL and they should put into book more discussion phase and clear consent to respect that community. Beyond that I don't really care there, but I also think it shouldn't be put into marketing language either. Make it a normal list.

S*xual violence. I would spell it out beyond that, but Blue Sky randomly censors sometimes. As in nonconsensual encounters of that kind. All SV is SA, but not all SA is SV. It's a way to avoid saying r*pe, because also of random algorithmic censoring.

김윤미 Kim Yoonmi (Surname First) @kimyoonmi.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I loathe it. When they do it with SV (not kink shaming BDSM, but more like true SV), that's worse. It's a good way to make people hate your book before flipping to the first page. But the solution should be list it normally. If you want full sentences, go with the TV-style warnings.

Honestly, if authors are going to do this, I, as a person with actual triggers and trauma will advocate for them to stop listing them and I'd rather read intrepid reviewers to list them for me, because the average reader will not do this kind of BS.
