LOL! "might just beat SpaceX to Mars" SpaceX has launched cargo even to the asteroids and Europa, so, they are beyond Mars already.

The "special military operation" is going according to plan. In Sevastopol, Russians are running out of gas while waiting in line at gas stations, forcing them to push their cars for kilometers to reach the fuel pump.

It is high risk opportunity. Not because of rocket launches or Starship. But because of Elon. HE is the risk. SpaceX is already the clear leader in rocket launches and there is no competition coming any time soon. Their operational rockets do not explode, they are the most reliable and cheap.

"SpaceX should be on their own dime by now. " It pretty much is. The US government just buys services from it, because SpaceX is cheaper and more capable vs others.

In a perfect world, they would have adapters to be able to use the booster from a competitor when needed. SH is very capable to launch blue origin stage2 + blue moon.

Except that the SpaceX explosion was planned. Not accidental.

Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
Perhaps not true "literally". But yes, all NASA bigger rockets have been built via contracts with external companies. SpaceX "just" does it faster, cheaper and more reliably. (Starship is just damn hard) I hope BO will follow.

Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
Especially SpaceX has been the exact opposite. A lot of reward from taxpayer investment, unlike via old contractors. Tens of billions of savings. Also the amount of physical waste has reduced via reuse and cleaner fuels.
000
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
Where is SpaceX in that?

I think these "accidents" continue as long as Article5 is not taken in use. Putin is having "fun" at the moment.

Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
Reusable space ship weights more than a non reusable, that is unavoidable. SpaceX chose steel mainly bc it is cheaper and more durable vs traditional materials. For the travel to Mars, thusters and engines are the most easy problem to solve. Keeping humans healthy/alive is difficult.
000
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
? It's BO who has the "dildo" rocket. SpaceX is doing reliable service to orbit, reliable landings and is able to fly humans. But I hope BO and others catch up one day.

Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
And it is far cheaper to have failures early than later. Therefore spacex method seems better vs achieving results.
000
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
AFIK, more than 400 USA launch failures have happened before y2000. And SpaceX alone has launches the same amount as the rest of the world since 1950. So, SoaceX has had very few failures vs result. But we should not compare old times vs modern times.

Not a launch.
000
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
Yawn. (Not a launch, not a test launch, not a partial success of a static fire, .... No way compare able vs last starship test.)
000
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
You got it pretty much totally wrong. Methane is the best fuel to use, so far. BO has wasted more than SX. BO has had many failures. etc.
100
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
Actually ... SX has achieved more than 500 successful orbital operational rocket launches (and reuses) while BO is trying to do their first operational launch. BO has spent 2x more time and money and not yet done a successful orbital launch for operational service. SpaceX method seems to work.

Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
Static fire (test). Not a launch.

Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
Nope. SpaceX is the most successful and the largest rocket launch operator. (Elon is a horrible & unreliable person, though.)
000
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
Clearly you do not understand anything about rocketry or #spacex testing. So why? Just trolling?
260
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
Some people just do not understand. They focus on non-relevant things. SS was planned to explode after landing. V3 is big step forward vs cargo capability, but a step back vs engine reliability (new engines). V3 was all-new and most of "test items" of the flight were successful, that's all.
000
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
Right. Almost like the logic of flat-earth believers.
010
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
Total nonsense. SH has not exploded on accent. N1 exploded on every accent. F9 is the proof of SpaceX being the best rocket operator. 10+ years and 500 reuses ahead of the next company (Blue Origin). SH+SS is aiming to the next level of rocketry. But it has many tests to do before being ready.
020
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
False. It was a totally new kind of booster on it's first test flight. It was not planned to be recovered.
000
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
As planned. It was a test flight.
0111
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
Very little, unlike with other rocket operators. SH+SS materials and fuel is mostly non-polluting. SpaceX is the only company actively recovering rockets and reusing them

Yet another "season" of #SpaceX #Starship testing. IFT12 worked pretty well, when considering that it was nearly totally new ship design + a new booster design + new engines + new launch tower. #space #rockets

What I consider being wrong for years was that the civilian Starlink was enabled in Russia controlled areas of Zaporizia, Herson etc. It has cost tens of thousands of lives lost.
110
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 14/04/2026
also Gwen Shotwell stated that Starlink terminals were donated for civilian & medical needs. I think she has some credibility, unlike Elon. Anyway, a lot of "fog of war" around Ukraine matters.
210
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 14/04/2026
There is a credible looking story that Ukraine asked Elon to enable Starlink around Crimea, so that Ukraine could strike on Sevastopol harpour. Elon refused to do that and he was also not allowed (by Pentagon) to do that. Also it is a fact that Starlink is meant for civilian use,
100
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 14/04/2026
Some time ago I tried to dig into it and it seemed most of the mainstream info was not true. Elon is a bad person, but that Crimea case did not go like reuters stated. It is a fact that starlink should have been blocked at and around Crimea, as Starlink coverage map shows.

Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 14/04/2026
Surely the government / military should say something if that was true?
000
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 14/04/2026
FYI, as you can see, junk (=debris) has reduced. Biggest single cause of space debris is military doing test firings vs satellites. Kessler Syndrome is a possibility, though. We are heading towards hundreds of thousands of satellites and not all are being designed/launched in responsible manner.
120
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 22/03/2026
That is not accurate. It was because they failed to plan correctly at FAA or at the airliner company. The launch time and debris zone / hazard zone was known beforehand.
000
Kimmo Kannala @kimmok.bsky.social · 22/03/2026
I think that was fake news bc: In real life starlink was blocked or should have been blocked on russia controlled areas, like on and around Crimea.

Most Republicans, especially MAGA, continue to support the US action and express a lot of confidence in Trump personally.
