Asked in a Bills women’s group for advice on the most Covid-safe area of a football stadium (least crowded, most ventilation) and I was told “Please stay home if you have this many concerns.” This is how ableds view the disabled: You don’t deserve to leave the house. Don’t make us perceive you.

JD Vance: … people hang out those hideous signs in their yard that say, "in this house we believe blah blah blah blah blah. You know, love is love, science is science, whatever. No person is illegal." That sign is such a disgusting butchering of the Chipotle mission statement.

In love with tonight’s Strawberry moon!
Night sky with a large pinkish-orange moon rising above the horizon. There is a church steeple on the left and lights from cars on a highway.

@nbcnews.com where is the coverage about what’s happening in Tennessee? This is the 2nd night in a row. A move that affects approx. 620,000 in Memphis…maybe you could scootch your breathless coverage of the cruise ship to slot 2.

Dude I don’t even care that this photo is terrible. It’s a snowy owl at an airport and I got a picture of it.
A terrible picture of a snowy owl perched on a snow bank. There’s an airplane lot in the foreground and an orange snow fence behind the owl.

One of several Canada Jays feeding off a deer carcass … which I learned today is a favorite food of theirs. @ Saz-Zim Bog
A Canada Jay (bird) is centered in the screen. It is perched among a tangle of winter branches. The background is a very blue sky. The visible portion of the Jay is a black mask, white throat, and a grey floofy body.

Winter birding is so much fun. Quiet. No mosquitoes. Get all bundled up, toe warmers, hand warmers, layers, boots. Sure I only saw 10 species, but if the birds show out, I’ll toss on the purple parka that makes me look like Barney, and then I will too.
No birds are in this photo. Picture of a frozen pond with a gentle rise of forested, glacial esker hills across the shore.

Back in May, a park worker told me that a Carolina wren had made a nest in the 100-year old maintenance garage. Weeks later, chaos ensued in the garage when the chicks fledged. Working in a state park has so many lovely, small moments.
A box on a messy shelf is labeled ‘cleaning supplies for volunteers’ but it’s really just a bunch of rags. A bird has made a nest in the box.A bird has made a nest in the ‘cleaning supplies’ box. There’s a loose nest of leaves and other natural material. If you zoom in, you can see the frowny faces of three Carolina Wren babies.

Please enjoy this pic of a bald eagle #birds
This is a picture of a bald eagle a fraction of a second after it lit off the branch it was on. All that’s left is a flash of white tail, blurry spread wings, gloomy early morning sky, and backlit branches

A sign on the counter of a coffee establishment says, “Afraid of change? Leave it here (smiley face)” with a green arrow pointing to a tip jar. The jar has change and several dollar bills in it.

This was one of 14 monarchs I raised from an egg this year. All were successfully released. It’s such a quiet thing I do. But I thought maybe someone out there could use some beauty.
A fresh monarch butterfly, bright orange and black, on pastel pink swamp milkweed. The monarch is a male, based on the visible scent gland on the wing. It’s a sunny day from August.

They gutted NOAA — is that because the agency “failed to tell the story” about how predicting hurricanes is good? The people destroying these agencies are deranged conspiracists allergic to basic facts and expertise. *This* is the important thing to stress when describing and responding to it.

Red-shoulder hawks are my favorite. This one was so unbothered by me and focused on getting a meal that I got this shot thru my sunroof.
A hawk balances on a wire looking over its red shoulder. The sun is not in the photo but you can tell that it is setting by the golden light on the hawk’s feathers.

This is Frankie (aka Pennywise). This is Frankie's box. It has crinkle paper in it. She does not want you to put in softer material. Just the crinkle paper, if you please.

Throwback to April 2024 ... Nearing the end of a birding hike at Goose Pond. You can't tell, but in a few mins, I'm about to find 2 Black-necked Stilts.
Wide angle of a wetland. Most of the photo is an impressive, dramatic storm rolling in.

From April: A Northern Parula performing air-ballet. Reliably always hear them in spring but impossible to actually find.
A small warbler bird in mid-flight with one wing stretched out like a cape opening and the other wing closed across its body. The characteristic deep yellow throat, obvious. A deep blue April sky and spring budding tree in the background.

Early Sept I had 18 5th-instar Monarch cats in my Swamp Milkweed. I caught a couple of No. Cardinals feasting themselves (I hope they got tummy aches) so I brought in the remaining cats to safety. Here they are on release day, beautiful and ready for the journey south.
Two Monarch butterflies rest in a shrub while their wings fully expand and dry. Their wings are vibrant orange rimmed in dramatic black.
