There are some definite advantages to those formats, and most students seem to like them.

Back in the olden days when I taught face to face, I always did conferences on every paper and did not leave much written feedback. I told them I expected them to write some summary comments at the end of the conference. I’ve also experimented with audio feedback for years off and on.

I’m sorry that you went through that, and that repeated incidents in the news bring it back up for you.

@thedaybooks.bsky.social I can’t find your email address in my inboxes; Miami cut off alumni mail. Can you message me so I can send you the pantoum?
010
kimjacobsbeck.bsky.social @kimjacobsbeck.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
Can it be found through a library database? I’d like to read it. Also, I will email you my pantoum, probably tomorrow.

I went to a workshop on the pantoum back in May and had a similar experience. The poem I wrote was surprising and powerful, and I am going to experiment with it more.

Almost any Harryette Mullen poem. Lorine Niedecker. Shelley’s “Ode to the West Wind” was the first poem I loved for sound. Also echoing the Dylan Thomas shoutouts. This is my favorite question.

Good work, Past Jessica! We (uncharacteristically) needed to add a second section of Intro to Lit, and I jumped at the chance to teach it, as I only had comp sections for fall and it’s been awhile…turns out, last time was 2010, so I am frantically still working on it. I have a whole week!

If she’s outsourcing potty training and reading to them because it’s boring, then she’s certainly not offering them any sense of how to act like a decent person. I’m sure that’s way too difficult for her delicate sensibilities.

The person in this article…FFS. It’s also super important to do the “no joy” tasks, like enforcing consequences when they do shit they are supposed to, holding the line on all sorts of expectations. Kids need boundaries, and they to be angry at their parents in low dose, safe ways. 1/

My Scorpio child was also impervious to feeling bad about being punished, so much so that his teachers would kind of marvel at it. “He just accepts the time out. No complaining!”

Image: A photo of a light-color wood grain running vertically. Text: Lawrence D’Souza informs me about cricket. There were the brothers: Humberto, Carlito and Joachim—tall, upright, elegant and very fine cricketers. They freely and aggressively played strokes all round the wickets with graceand ease. There was Anthony S. de Mello, described as the Grand Mogul of Sports—the doyen of sports. He converted the cricket Quadrangular Tournament of Bombay into a Pentangular Tournament by forming a Rest team that he himself captained. He was responsible for putting India on the Cricket Map of the World. Lawrence D’Souza himself was a fine cricketer, a dependable opening batsman and accurate spin bowler. He was an outstanding all rounder. Alison Strub

I am sure I’m the problem bc they play terrible when I’m watching, so I went to bed at halftime and my husband came upstairs with updates toward the end. I’ll watch the highlights!

I was on WIC after my first kid was born. I was a graduate student, as was my then-partner. We were broke and clueless, both first-gen students. Someone working at the hospital suggested that I apply; I didn’t know about it otherwise. It was such a relief to have healthy food in the house for him.

I didn’t know about the earliest origin of Memorial Day until I was a grown-ass man —because some folks didn’t want us to. 2021: Memorial Day organizers cut the mic of retired Lt Col Kemter as he discussed how formerly enslaved Americans exhumed remains of soldiers to give them proper burials. 🧵
