Oh me too. Are you enjoying the Bogong migration? I've had thousands here fuelling up for their astonishing flight.

Thank you Nat. It's so heartening to see the garden full of these things. It makes the work worthwhile.

Given the erratic way hover flies move, that's a fantastic shot. I have hundreds in the garden at the moment.

Easy to miss species in the video
A tiny black bug with a scarlet head sits in the centre of a dark pink flower.A tiny fly sitting on the petal of a dark pink flower.A native bee with heavy pollen sacks showing. A tiny beetle with zigzag patterned wing case (possibly some type of carpet beetle) and a masked bee (I think) in amongst the flowers.

Australia is in the southern hemisphere so yes, our seasons are the reverse of northern hemisphere seasons and we are mid spring.

Family turns bare island into reef oasis after guano mining destroys it
Lady Elliot Island sat bare, bleak and silent for 100 years after guano miners ravaged it, leaving a moonscape devoid of life. Then in the 1960s, one family started planting trees.

As @klg.bsky.social notes, Hegseth has doubtless not read Charles Dickens' letter to The Times on witnessing a public hanging, but we must. kerryngoldsworthy.substack.com/p/the-execut...
"The horrors of the gibbet and of the crime which brought the wretched murderers to it faded in my mind before the atrocious bearing, looks, and language of the assembled spectators."

Agree. It's breaking the social contract. I also think if you obviously aren't touching the tea or milk, you should get extra coffee.

I've come to loathe the word 'activists'; it's up there with 'consumers'. Both are dehumanising and derogatory.

I have 3 very close family members with avocado allergy. 2 of them are also allergic to latex and 1 has the trifecta+ and can't be in a car with a ripe banana without becoming projectile vomiting ill. It's rare enough that it can be bloody hard to convince people it's real.

Yes sure. That sort of surveillance tech would be the exception rather than the rule as glasses are being pushed to be. At least I hope so.
100
Kimberly @kimbasgarden.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
Nor should you be. For you they'd be life enhancing. Somewhat like standard glasses are for me and many others but so much more. I completely agree you should have access but, I don't need them; the creep sitting in a park watching kids definitely doesn't.
110
Kimberly @kimbasgarden.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
It could. I actively avoid every effort to capture me on camera. I know that's not entirely possible (CCTV etc) but there are very few intentional images of me past childhood. It's my personal opinion that I'm entitled to that type of privacy.
210
Kimberly @kimbasgarden.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
Then perhaps images received through the camera ought not be able to be saved. If the camera is functioning as a form of eyesight but not recording, I'd be more comfortable.

Kimberly @kimbasgarden.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
I can absolutely see the benefit of the glasses for people with low or no vision. I think they should be freely available or provided at very low cost. The camera component though is just unnecessary unless I'm completely missing something. I'm happy to be told if I am.

Kimberly @kimbasgarden.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
I can. Someone points a phone, or gopro etc in my direction, I have a fair chance of knowing they're filming and asking them to stop or moving out of their field. It's much harder with someone just looking in my direction while wearing sunnies. The lights are easy to miss.
