The story has a very Arthur C. Clarke or Issac Asimov feel to it. It reminded a lot of "Childhood's End" but only in the first chapters. (It's a lot more lighthearted than that story.) There's also a "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" flavor to the prose, as well as a few dashes of Star Trek TNG in there. Jim is very Q like, though nicer. 😇

If anyone is looking for a random bit of good news. My friend's missing groundhog neighbor *is* still alive and well. We'd been worried Cuthbert had been eaten by some other animal, but he was spotted today in their garden. Chonky and happy. Back to eating invasive plants! Hooray for Cuthbert!
