Well, today marks one year since my date of hire at my current job. While there are some things I still don't like, namely the commute and being away from home 10+ hours each day, I'd say it's overall less stressful and more satisfying than working in child services was.

I will give Fortune's Weave credit. Fire Emblem as a series has been very sluggish about breaking away from its heteronormativity. But FW hasn't been afraid to show characters who are just unambiguously gay. Good on them.

Apologies for the wall of text. TL;DR - I'm on hiatus from streaming, effective immediately, while I decide if I want to continue or if it's time to quit altogether.

"I announced this on stream today, but...

The last few games I've streamed haven't really been hitting for me or bringing much enjoyment. It's made me realize something that's been staring me in the face... It's not the games. It's the streaming.

So, effective immediately, I will be taking a hiatus from streaming. I need to make a decision if it's worth it to continue, or if it's time to just close the door on streaming and quit altogether. I would like to try to reach this decision by November 30th at the latest, because if I do decide to quit streaming, then this will allow 2026 to be the last year where Twitch is on my taxes, because I can assure you, Twitch does not have any benefit when filing taxes. Oof.

I started streaming during the pandemic as a means to fill a social gap. But as of late... It doesn't feel like it's doing that any more for me. While I don't need anyone to tell me Twitch isn't about numbers, the fact is that behind every number is an actual person, and I feel like I'm just not reaching them anymore. Most of the time in streams I find myself just talking to myself, and in that case, it's not actually accomplishing the social value that I started streaming for. I feel that is why the games haven't really been hitting on stream lately, since without the conversation piece, a game is just a game, and streaming doesn't add value to it.

I can't blame anyone for this but myself though. I've spent the last 5, going on 6 years trying to build a community, and trying to establish my role in other communities. And lately it feels like my role is more significant as a supporter to others than as a streamer myself. No one has said this, it's simply my own assessment of my role within Twitch spaces. I feel as though the energy that I bring to streaming isn't really what people on Twitch are looking for, which I can't fault anyone for. But it makes it hard to want to continue."

Text Post Reading: "It doesn't help that I've felt discouraged by continuously failing to meet any goals I set, no matter how big or small. I've been watching my friends meet their goals consistently lately, and I'm proud of them, but... I wish I could stand alongside them, rather than watching them from behind. This year in particular has been marked by failure at every goal I've announced and pushed for. It's not like I'm trying to push for partner or anything, all I want is to feel like I'm moving forward, rather than stagnating or moving back. And if I'm being honest and vulnerable... I don't like the feelings of jealousy that streaming is creating within me, so until I can get into a better space with it, it's better to just not stream.

I do want to be able to fit into the streaming space, but lately I just feel discouraged and don't know where to go with it. It hasn't been bringing me enjoyment, so until I can figure out a way for it to do so, I think I will be taking a step back from streaming. I won't be disappearing from Twitch entirely though, as I still want to support my friends... I just need to figure out if my own streaming really brings anything of value.

I do want to wrap up this vent by saying thank you to the friends I've met on Twitch. Some of the people who Twitch introduced me to have become some of my closest friends, and I will always be thankful for that. Those friendships will continue regardless of whether I stream or not, because those friendships are unconditional. My decision about whether or not to quit streaming is simply about how I feel regarding my own streams and the value they provide to me."

I know that a lot of gamers tend to look down on mobile games as being "lesser" then PC or console games, but preservation of games shouldn't be selective; it should be across all mediums. It shouldn't be up to fans to have to preserve mobile games' content when corporations pull the plug. (2/2)

For all the talks about Video Game preservation, I feel like mobile games often get left out of the conversation. Once their service ends, most are just gone. A few get lucky enough to get an offline version, and fewer still get remade into console games, but the rest become lost media. (1/2)

A bit late to this trend, but better late than never. It was really hard to narrow this down to just 9 games because there were a lot of games that just BARELY missed the cut. Mega Man 2, Sekiro, Pokemon Platinum, and Stardew Valley were all contenders.

I was sad that the conversation moved away from Legends Z-A as quickly as it did. While it's not a perfect game, the gameplay loop was fun, and it had some of my favorite characters in the series. Would love to see it get more love with this bundle.
