Plenty more buds on the way. I get why it's also called indoor maple in Swedish ("rumslönn") – it’s like a small tree in a pot!

Last night at the opera. I grew up watching Ingmar Bergman’s TV version of The Magic Flute (1975). Just now learning that Mozart was a Freemason, and the opera is full of Masonic symbolism, rituals, and ideals like conquering the irrational Queen of the Night to pursue enlightenment and progress.

Just booked this cute villa, Konditori Lyran, for my PhD defense party in April! Henrik Ibsen, Selma Lagerlöf, and Oscar II all used to party here. It was built in 1867, and according to legend, the Swedish expression "being at Lyran" (vara på Lyran), meaning being drunk, originated here.

A yellow wooden villa with a tower, surrounded by a yard, garden tables, and trees. Konditori Lyran is located in the southern part of Stockholm.

Nice U-turn in new NYT poll "Trump’s approval rating by demographic group looks almost exactly as it did in Times/Siena polling in the run-up to his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. If anything, young and nonwhite voters are even likelier to disapprove of Mr. Trump than they were then."

The major demographic shifts of the last election have snapped back. In today’s poll, Mr. Trump’s approval rating by demographic group looks almost exactly as it did in Times/Siena polling in the run-up to his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. If anything, young and nonwhite voters are even likelier to disapprove of Mr. Trump than they were then, while he retains most of his support among older and white voters.

How Support for Trump Has Changed:
President Trump made gains with most groups between 2020 and 2024. But in the latest Times/Siena poll, those shifts have vanished with young, nonwhite and infrequent voters.

At least Goebbels was embarrassed when he was given Knut Hamsun's Nobel Prize! www.berlingske.dk/internationa...

This is about the time when, in 1943, the author Knut Hamsun presented his own Nobel Prize in Literature, which he received in 1920 for the novel "Growth of the Field", to Joseph Goebbels.

Weekendavisen writes that Goebbels, according to his diary, seemed embarrassed by the gift. Hitler's propaganda minister chose to keep it a secret for fear that it would damage both Hamsun's and the Nazis' reputation in occupied Norway.

The goal is for the parties to find ways to come together around their differences.
