a hasty meme of the quoteskeeted image. the original is senator kennedy (r-la) and a senate aide whose face is obscured holding up an exhibit in the jack smith trial today. eric schmitt (r-mo) has his arms crossed in front of the exhibit, seated in a senate hearing room. the exhibit, originally some bullshit about being at the wrong basketball game, is replaced to display the "the numbers don't lie, idiot / the incorrect numbers" meme.

the moment we’re in right now is one that obliges us to connect, to discuss, to get physical, and to stay observant about the world around us. today was the eighth (possibly ninth?) bike with rossana event and it really is so important to give a shit, wherever you are
many cyclists, most wearing matching t-shirts, outside of Miko’s italian ice, enjoy the nice sunshine and Chicago turn of the season

poorly done img macro of an onion headline, edited to read “everyone in chicago given own mayoral candidacy in 3,000,000 - resident solution”. it is a riff on the onion article about the middle east, originally published in (the long) 2014

dope panel slash book launch at the inimitable @pilsencommbooks.bsky.social tonight. @ruwithsonali.bsky.social’s new book of interviews is (probably) the first published on the new Abolish ICE movement—though one thing it emphasises is the contiguity with long-standing currents. great convo!
three people seated in an events space — the back area of Pilsen Community Books in Chicago. From left to right, Sonali Kolhatkar, Sandra Puebla and Richard Wallace. Rich is responding to an audience question, Sandra and Sonali are listening intently. The space has lots of lefty decoration, like a Palestine flag and protest banners, as well as plants and rugs in a raw brick space with high ceilings.

taken about 5 mins apart
a view of uptown facing east, looking towards lake. a building in the foreground reflects golden sunset light, even though the overall scene is overcast and moody. the same view, effectively monochrome, with visible raindrops

as chicagoans i feel it is our swornmost duty to resist the uwu sowwy 👉👈 smolbeanification of these delivery robots upon our public realm, no biggie
tight crop screenshot from Xitter of a post reading
"Spotted on Grand at the bus shelter that previously was dam[aged by a] delivery robot." the post is accompanied by an image of a Chicago bus stop ad, reading "Dear West Town neighbors I took 'breaking into the market' too literally." There is some other marketing copy in smaller type. The overall jist is to be faux-apologetic, anthropomorphizing the robot itself with an orientalized human name instead of the massive corporation dumping their service capital into the street as part of their surveillance business model. The post has 860 likes on Xitter at time of screenshot.

low-effort meme of the “i am quite fond of [X]” format.

upper frame: white man with steaming ears wearing orange cap labeled ‘liberal’ with speech bubble “the new pope is woke!” next to identical image of white man with orange cap labelled ‘republican’ with speech bubble “no! the new pope is not woke!”

lower frame: image of pope leo XIV with speech bubble “I am quite fond of Metra” the text Metra is displayed with the logotype.

screenshot of the Chicago municipal code that outlines the affordable housing percentage of ARO-applicable developments, which all developments in the upzoned Broadway corridor would be subject to.

the screenshot reads:
Downtown, Inclusionary Areas, and Community Preservation Areas
Option 1
20% at a weighted average of 60% of the AMI, provided that at least one-third of the affordable units must be affordable to households at or below 50% of the AMI, of which one-sixth must be affordable to households at or below 40% of the AMI
Option 1A

Authorized Agency Units
Developers choosing Option 1 may lease or sell affordable units to an authorized agency. Such units shall count as 60% AMI units for the purpose of calculating the weighted average of the AMI.

If a developer sells or leases more than one-half of a project's affordable units to the Chicago Low Income Housing Trust Fund or another authorized agency that provides rent subsidies to landlords, the required percentage of affordable units under Option 1 increases to 25%.
Option 2
16% at a weighted average of 50% of the AMI, provided at least one-third of the affordable units must be affordable to households at or below 40% of the AMI
Option 3
13% at a weighted average of 40% of the AMI
Option 4
10% at a weighted average of 30% of the AMI

a teachable moment in a recent Zohran interview and showcases his message discipline. some comrades swear by the A-B-C-(D) method of talking to the press and this answer is textbook ABCing: acknowledge w/ passable answer to the Q bridge to one of your core messages control the last third of your A.
screenshot lifted from The Other Website of a Zohran Mamdani interview in Pitchfork magazine, annotated by me with the ABCs. Here's the text of the screenshot, annotated in [square brackets] with the framework:
[question]: What’s your take on the Drake-Kendrick beef?
[acknowledge] I think Kendrick absolutely destroyed him. It’s a real testament to message discipline over many songs, and it’s an inspiration for me as a politician to always stay on my message. I’m trying to do what Kendrick did in the course of that beef, but, specifically, [bridge] around affordability. At every juncture, he would bring it back to his central points, and I think that’s the key, is that you keep coming back to what your core message is. [control] For me, it’s about the fact that New Yorkers can’t afford to live in the city they call home.

so I think the name is horrible and we can do way better, but here's my doodle for what a new transit system logo could be (obviously whatever it becomes, it won't be this, as it's too chicago-centric / "unfair" to suburbs, but I think contiguity w/ existing CTA iconography is actually a strength)
a logo for an as-yet nonexistent transit agency, the north illinois transit authority. the logo is highly similar to the cta's present logo and is in fact a hatchet job redo of the current CTA logo in illustrator in 10 mins. The logo retains the blue circle with red outer and thinner white inner border, as well as the italisised humanist type of the agency intials in white and lowercase. the tittle on the i of nita is a sheared chicago 6 pointed star, the kind seen on the chicago flag.

went for a redistricting bike ride today and it was jarring to drink in all the disparity and disinvestment all inside of Walter Burnett’s ward. really cool convos, community engagement, and some endorphins too.
A woman stands in front of cyclists at the start of a planned bike ridecyclists stopped for a breather inside of a bike lane outside of Garfield Park Conservatory on the west side of ChicagoTwo cyclists pause to discuss the impact of gerrymandering on the 27th Ward. One bicycle has a speaker (playing house music) behind it, and the Sears Tower is visible in the background.from L to R: Remell Terry of Equiticity and the NAACP Chicago West Side branch, and Chaundra Van Dyk and DuShaun Branch Pollard of CHANGE Illinois stand on the site of the former Rockwell Gardens homes, operated by Chicago Housing Authority. All three women are from the west side.
