Yet another American wader in Cornwall. Today’s special is the 8th record of Upland Sandpiper. Found by Raoul Humphries in the Chun Downs area (nr Pendeen). The distinctive flight call was heard several times. This is also the 7th Nearctic wader this Autumn.

Last stop was Winterboune RSBP! Not sure if we had left it too late in the year for Stone Curlew, and wasn't expecting them to be showing that well. We were proved wrong when we arrived to the viewing screen and the first bird I saw was one! 40 in total! And 78 Lapwing! Plus a Goshawk!

September has served up some tasty Autumnal scarcities, including Pallid Harrier, Semipalmated, Bairds, Buff-breasted & Pectoral Sandpipers, Lesser Yellowlegs, multiple Grey Phalaropes and a Wryneck. I wonder what goodies October will bring . . . #ukbirding

There is also a marked difference in overall upperpart colouration, juv Semipalmated Sandpiper (left) being colder-toned grey/brown, lacking Little Stints rufous fringes, bold white mantle stripes and black-centred tertials. 2/3

Enjoyed getting to grips with this juvenile Baird's Sand at Black Pill. Characteristic scaly pattern on coverts/scaps, diffuse breast streaking, white loral spot (left image) and attenuated structure/primary extension (right) seen well once I got my eye in. A subtle bird. #ukbirding #birdingWales

Short-billed Dowitcher, adult in moult at Drift Res this afternoon (14th Sept). Delighted to find it but will admit that was a difficult id in this plumage. Thanks to Killian Mullarney for confirming id.

Superb Lyrebird lives in the damp forests and rainforests of southeastern mainland Australia and southern Tasmania. 80 to 100 cm long including its long tail, Ground-dwelling, sedentary birds that stay within a fixed home range and roost in trees at night. Mimicker extraordinaire!

With the cat out the bag, today I saw a minimum of 10 Zitting Cisticolas near Walberswick - there is almost certainly more. A single male paired with 2 females, one of which 2nd brooded; 1st autumn birds are spreading south, but can be seen from the beach. Please don't enter the fenced-off area

I'm still yet to clap eyes on a patch Green Sandpiper in 2026, but Common Sands made up for it today, with 13 seen across the Severnside site. My partner in birding, @kidphotographer24.bsky.social, then found a Clouded Yellow at Aust Cliff! #ukbirding #avonbirding

It felt rather Autumnal on the Severnside patch today. Wader passage is underway (Dunlin, Curlew & Common Sand through), Swifts and Sand Martins heading into the north easterly breeze and a smart Med Gull on the Pilning wetland. Pic: @severnsidebirds.bsky.social #ukbirding #avonbirding

Please don’t put out hair for bird nests. Chicks get entangled in hair balls. Just had to cut hair strands that were tying 3 blue tit chicks together, and wrapped round the throat of one skinny chick that couldn’t swallow food. Hopefully saved in time 🤞

The struggles of photographing petrels: 1. When they come too close for my lens 2. When 2 petrels are flying towards you from opposite directions and you don't know which one to focus on! 3. When they go behind the waves! Despite all these problems I managed to get a few pics
