haha yeah, can confirm, my job is making computers go brrr, which is suuper science-and-engineering focused, so my brain is all about rules and structure. what do you MEAN "shove tikka masala sauce into pasta", tikka masala is a RICE dish??? but no, that's a banger!

In other words, when you only follow recipes, you never learn why recipes are the way they are, you just follow rules. When you smash random junk together, you make garbage and realize "o yea that's why"!

i feel so silly for taking so long in life to realize that cooking is just vibes. y'all, just making sure you know, you don't need a recipe for things. grocery stores are idea walls. just pick stuff at random and shove it together, it's fine, there are no predefined "valid" combinations.

my trusty decade-old focusrite 2i2 is finally dying :c I'm so sad touching the monitor volume knob is extremely crackly, the left/right volumes rapidly independently jump around on a light touch, kinda have to prod at it until I hit a magic point where left/right is balanced

I just got home from an extremely emotionally intense and activity packed trip to berlin for ffxiv fanfest, and I’m amazed at how *quiet* the sensations of home are… a shower is smooth, water isn’t funky and tastes like water, bed is just bed. I underappreciate familiarity allowing a quiet brain.

I was just talking with a coworker about how the bottom right of this chart is a prime candidate for mentoring other people to do the task, and the top left is good for being mentored keep a lookout for both sides! not just where you need to grow, but where you can help others grow too.

you’ve probably heard this before, but, the thing that worked for me at least (for several areas of life, not just work) is having the self-hijack mindset of “I want to work and maximize productivity. I cannot be productive if I am burnt out, so to maximize productivity I must take breaks”

her name is gumpy because she was v. grumpy when we first took her in (in a “she hates that she likes this” kind of way, growling while being pet but actually purring/cuddling). she quickly realized she was safe and was no longer grumpy, but her name is still gumpy! bsky.app/profile/frey...
