Thanks to @repdexteror.bsky.social and our community for showing up to talk about protecting our democracy, immigrant and trans neighbors, public lands, healthcare, services, roads, transit, and so much under attack from this administration. I am grateful to be in the fight with all of you.

Housing Oregon has been a tireless champion for affordable housing across the state; I had a great time speaking at their annual conference along with State Rep Lamar Wise. Eager to partner with all of the members of Housing Oregon to advance a pro-homes agenda in the 2027 legislative session.

Commissioner Nafisa Fai is a true hero - an immigrant and small business owner who ascended to be the first refugee, first Black, and first Muslim Commissioner elected to Washington County. I've always admired her tenacity and her commitment to community service.

Data Centers use up vast land, energy, & water, w/harmful health impacts. Yesterday I stood with @tinakotek.bsky.social & Oregonians from across the state calling for a statewide data center moratorium to give us time to create effective policies to protect & benefit our communities. #orpol

I want to live in a city where every PPS neighborhood school is open and providing the excellent education Portland students deserve. If we want to fill our classrooms with students, we have to build more family-sized homes that Portlanders can afford.

To see how the Jade Int'l Night Market has grown over the past 10 years--along with hundreds of more affordable homes along a safer 82nd Ave--is a testament to the power of community organizing. Much thanks to APANO and the Jade District for another joyful, community-filled Jade Intl Night Market!

What a joy to join the growing movement behind Oregon's Drivers Union! They are building power for drivers and riders for safer streets and a fair share of the cost of ridesharing. I look forward to welcoming them back to Salem for another round of advocacy for driver protections and benefits.

Update from @trimet.org today: Without additional revenue, TriMet's budget deficit will ultimately force the agency to cut in excess of 33% of its total service by 2030 or 2031. This is what a 31% service could look like:
Eliminating 30 of 79 bus lines (38% of bus lines).
Ending weekend service on many bus lines.
Ending service on many bus lines after 9pm.
Shutting down WES Commuter rail system.
MAX frequency goes from 15 mins to 20 mins (3 trains per hour vs 4)
Bus frequent services goes from 15 mins to 17.5 mins.

TriMet's cuts begin on Sunday 8/23 - there are multiple changes to bus and light rail routes across our district, including cuts to the Green Line MAX. These cuts are unbearable. The legislature must act boldly next year to restore transit service across the state. #orpol loom.ly/ZJ5t1JM

Oregon simply won't have enough money to fix our state's crumbling roads and bridges and restore statewide transit service if we continue to write blank checks for ODOT's proposed multibillion dollar megaprojects. #orpol #orleg

Terrific quote by my friend and colleague Adriana in last week's KGW story about efforts to redirect vital PCEF funds away from community investment and towards cops and the Trail Blazers' stadium renovation. loom.ly/AGDkMqk

Adriana Voss-Andreae, co-founder of Portland climate justice organization 350PDX, was chief petitioner on that successful 2018 initiative campaign. In an email to KGW, she emphasized the centrality of that dual goal, and the work the fund is already doing.

"The climate crisis is putting Portlanders' lives at risk with extreme record breaking temperatures. Families are struggling to afford energy bills. Without trees, our East Portland neighborhoods are only getting hotter," she said. "Every day, PCEF dollars are working to address these challenges and make a tangible difference for communities."

It's unacceptable that the campaign to defund PCEF has spent the last few weeks brazenly lying to the public to collect signatures. It suggests backers know the public wouldn't otherwise support their effort to steal PCEF money for more cops. loom.ly/46IZ97c

On Yom HaShoah, the reading of Holocaust victims’ names claims the power of humanizing the lives lost to Hitler's regime of Nazi fascism. As we face rising antisemitism and war mongering one antidote to the desensitizing overwhelm and violence is affirming one another's inherent human dignity.
