...if they'd receive a personalized offer, they'd more likely consider a purchase. This ties it to the previous notion of: focus on the gamer that engages with your game. Stop the bland offers that cater to everyone - make offers that will hit your player's interests.

The last section of the report focuses on storefronts. They've noticed some gamers have been abandoning app stores and got their digital goods directly from the game company's storefront instead. Asking why gamers did that, they saw no incentive would move the needle. BUT...

Khalior @khalior.bsky.social · 18/08/2026

To retain the concurrent players, they recommend a personalized approach, based on the data the company is already collecting from the player, using new data aggregation technology. Example: Overwatch already does this - I receive an email with my stats for the week.

Khalior @khalior.bsky.social · 18/08/2026

As for AI, a slight shift to the positive(!) is happening as the surveyed gamers are more welcome to it. Not all of them. I predicted the PR shift to make generative AI in games not only acceptable but inevitable will happen gradually over time, and it's already bearing fruit.

Khalior @khalior.bsky.social · 18/08/2026

Sadly, in an era where there's never been more video games releases, most gamers will stick with their comfort picks and won't try to look for new games. This is why I cover gaming showcases on my stream and I'm currently becoming a variety streamer: to show interesting games.

This section hits hard.

Khalior @khalior.bsky.social · 18/08/2026

It's no longer about getting the biggest metrics, the number of accounts, the number of players on SteamCharts: it's about a steady number of concurrent players (CCV/CCU) who are engaged with a game and will continue to spend on it. Flash-in-the-pan launches = death.

100 1

Khalior @khalior.bsky.social · 18/08/2026

Gamers are no longer a single model for whom companies will try to calibrate their game to hit at the core of the gamer model that will get the most success. (This goes against the online conservative discourse that has been trying to pull back into the other direction)

-Old: a sandbox packed with many game genres -New: a focused game with one genre Or, in prophetic words: "In a world where AAA studios try to pander to everyone, it's refreshing to have a game that sets out to do one thing - the best." -Max0r, 2021, on Doom Eternal

Khalior @khalior.bsky.social · 18/08/2026

(Thread) I've been already talking about this, so let's dive in this new report. Basically: gamers are splitting into all kinds of genres, there are more games coming out than ever before, so companies need to specialize in one of those genres to make it. www.bain.com/insights/top...

"1666: Amsterdam" will go to Early Access on Aug. 25th, but don't worry - the AI-generated assets will be "retouched" for the final version. Phew, controversy avoided! www.eurogamer.net/1666-amsterd...
