It was the first record to incorporate some of their polymath founders Tsutomu Ōhashi theory that ultrasonic frequencies can positively affect the brain and enhance the listening experience, which he called The Hypersonic Effect.timecapsulesound.substack.comThe Music You Can’t Hear: Geinoh Yamashirogumi’s Quest for the Perfect SoundFrom brainwave-altering frequencies to Balinese rituals in Tokyo—explore how Shoji Yamashiro and his eclectic collective changed the way we hear music. 100
Key Frames: A Podcast About Anime @keyframespod.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Akira’s soundtrack by musical collective Geinoh Yamashirogum was chosen by Katsuhiro Otomo because “I felt that Akira wouldn't hold together unless it had lush music. Plain classical & choral wouldn't be enough. Something ethnic with more rhythm—I like rhythm, you see. Their work has lots of rhythm” 100
Key Frames: A Podcast About Anime @keyframespod.bsky.social · 07/09/2026We have a new episode coming out tomorrow, but as a bridge from the past to the future here's a few things we found interesting about the process of creating Akira's soundscape. 110

Key Frames: A Podcast About Anime @keyframespod.bsky.social · 25/08/2026It's gotta be Cross Game. Unsurprising that so many of the responses are about baseball anime! Sure, there's plenty weirder than this fairly standard outing from Mitsuru Adachi, but the interplay of romance, rivalry, and ambition following the characters from elementary school to Koshien is perfect. 232

Key Frames: A Podcast About Anime @keyframespod.bsky.social · 03/08/2026I stumbled into rewatching Koyaanisqaatsi again just after Akira, & it’s fascinating how it at times share's similar environmental imagery. I wonder if there was a pervasive preoccupation with how we change the world through our technology, and the resultant cityscapes going on in the 80’s. 100

Key Frames: A Podcast About Anime @keyframespod.bsky.social · 30/07/2026I’ve not seen a clear answer sorry. I wondered initially if it might be to do with licencing rights, but that's not the case here. Both the original manga & the anime comic were published by Kodansha in japan. Key Frames: A Podcast About Anime @keyframespod.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Part of the work of editing any podcast is there's always a moment when someone says something that just sounds a little off, and you find yourself thinking: "Did someone really publish a comic of Akira made entirely from sliced up shots from the movie?" and yes they did indeed. 231
