The refs had a shocker, and it's two world class strikes, but if we're managing the game better neither of those goals happen.

I mean, however creaky the defence is, surely it's not too much to ask our new midfield to just keep the ball for a bit?

Poor game management for sure. Also seems obvious to say but it's very hard to win when you're conceding two goals every game.

Boooooom!

Things we think/say before Boomo scores.

Of course none of it matters if this is the performance level.

Reckon he'll have replaced Maguire at CB before too long.

No Amad in the travelling squad at all, surely must be a knock or something rather than tactical/selection.

Posting all this without seeing the team had already been published. Righto.

You'd obviously have Sesko in there if he'd played any minutes before now, possibly Mainoo too, Amad if he was fit. Interested to see what the boss goes for. The balance could be interesting.

Possible team for today: Lammens; Mazraoui, Maguire, Heaven, Shaw; Santos, Tielemans; Dorgu, Bruno, Mbeumo; Cunha. Thoughts? If it were me I'd play Cunha left, Dorgu right and Boomo up top, but Carrick seems to like Dorgu on the left so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Concerned he'd be more of a Telles-type signing. Great crosser but all round game may not be up to scratch for the PL.

It's a fair concern. I'm more just asking the question as a thought exercise. Whether we should be in this position or not is another conversation. Years of financial mismanagement mean we can't spend heavily every single summer.

Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 03/08/2026
Ah, I know we don't necessarily agree on this, but I do think it's a bit more about what we can do than what we're willing to do. Poor financial management led us here.

I hear it. Assuming it is one or the other, I understand why we'd go for Hall. Unless someone like Baleba or Scott become feasible before the windows up. But today? Probably Hall for me.

This is probably where I'd land too.

If it comes down to a choice between the two, reds, what are you saying? - £50-65m on Lewis Hall / budget or no 3rd midfielder - £60-£80m on the 3rd midfielder / no Lewis Hall or LB. Please also share your thinking. #MUFC

No arguments here. Wouldn't be surprised if Shaw gets minutes at LCB, especially if Hall comes in.

Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
It would make the Lewis Hall/Dorgu idea a plausible one if that's where we end up. People that know Carrick's Boro tenure better than me say he took a similar approach there with one attacking fullback, one more defensive.

Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
Not sure we need to worry. Main thing at this point of his career is game time. Think he'll get plenty at CB too and eventually succeed Maguire there on merit.

Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
Same for me at first. Persevered and honestly got used to it.

More positive things: - Santos looks the absolute business. - Yoro at RB is very promising. - If Mount can stay fit past November he'll be a real problem solver in multiple positions across the season. - Shay Lacey, generally.

Love Harry Maguire and he deserved his new deal but I think this is the year where we'll find out he's not our starting RCB anymore. Hope we've got a backup plan.

Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
Yeah for sure. Other priorities are swallowing up the budget this year, that's where years of financial incompetence gets us, but hopefully we get involved in these kinds of deals in future.
100
Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
Couldn't get there with last year's one in the end?

Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
Antonio Silva another very good prospect entering the league for (relative) peanuts at CB, with a strong chance in a couple of years we get linked to him for twice the price. Understand why it can't be this year but these are the kind of value deals that will secure our future long term.

Probably only noticing it as I'm checking in for transfer news myself on the regular on here, but some of the posts I've seen have been mental.

Sesko, De Ligt, Mazraoui, Hojlund, Casemiro, Varane, Maguire & Van Persie were all August signings. The idea that United have somehow left it too late already is not rooted in reality. (Admittedly also signed Antony & Ronaldo (for the 2nd time) in August, but the broader point stands.)

This annual late July transfer meltdown 😴
110
Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
Honestly. I'd wondered if he just wasn't interested in coming back and playing a squad role, but surely if he's open to it with that lot we should be asking the question.

Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
Listen, I'm gonna need United to get involved in this Welbeck situation post-haste. POST. HASTE.

Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 25/07/2026
The one you sign to take you to that absolute elite level when everything else is already in place. Think the project and the finances are a few years away from that for United, still.
120
Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 25/07/2026
Vini Jr move feels like one of those moves that doesn't happen very often. Statement signing wherever he lands. Wild wages, much drama, but potentially the signing that wins you all the pots. United won't be anywhere near it, but still, mad if it happens.

Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 23/07/2026
Just gonna keep bashing the Baleba drum until it happens.
010
Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
Putting aside the clear financial chicanery of this move, I think if Garnacho has any chance at all of getting his career back on track it'll be under someone like Emery.

Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
Yours. As in, if you can't see it happening.

Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
I do understand the hesitance though.
100
Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
Maybe. Lots of the same noises being made now as were being made exactly this time last year about lack of funds, then we went out and signed Sesko and Lammens in August and Sept.
110
Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
I get the feeling there'll be some sort of surface level walk-back, or appearance of making it right, but under the surface there'll be some new more insidious way of doing the same thing that's found.
120
Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
Still reckon all roads lead to Baleba. Especially if we're getting up around the £70-£80million mark. Though Scott would be a superb signing, so no complaints if that's what happens.

Thought that real life out-satired that thing about a decade ago!
010
Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
My thoughts exactly. Quite nervous about our defence across 60 games and 4 competitions.
010
Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
Probably only fair to clarify, I do think there are a few areas where he wouldn't quite have Maguire's quality just yet (positioning, aerial defending/threat, organization), but still think he's an upgrade in a general sense.
300
Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
(Also takes the pressure off Yoro to become world class overnight too). Anyway, yeah. I think we should sign him.
100
Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
For £35mil you're basically signing an immediate upgrade to Maguire at RCB (much better physicality, pace, duels, recovery, equally as good at box defending, progressive passing) and a long term partner for Heaven (or your more thoughtful, game reading LCB archetype of preference).

Kevin Levingston @kevintlev.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
Convinced that Ousmane Diomande will be a £70-80mil player within half a season of premier league football (especially when Marinakis is the one selling). Would be very smart of United to match the purported £35mil deal Forest are agreeing for him now, especially given our injury woes at CB.
