5 points from Hull Fulham Ipswich Everton and 10-man City with extremely mediocre shot margins. You tell me

This is actually multitudes worse than anything Amorim produced in 25/26

Attacking talent is just wild. Just Doku, Semenyo, Cherki, Ndiaye, Haaland, Foden, Enzo squaring up teams and blasting games open

This season is going to be a lot of wondering why United don’t dominate games they have huge talent advantages in, and don’t win matches they should be winning. 3/5 such matches to start the season

If any past United coach with more dogmatic tactical ideals put up this 11v10 there would be think pieces about how that tactical approach should never be used again in the league

Enzo is the most insufferable person in the history of the game. And for no reason, he’s literally good enough at football not to have to be like this

Carrick only lever is open up games, create and concede chances, or close down games, don’t create or concede many chances. Some of the midfield stuff is very cool but other than that… I hope he fixes the gaps man. Embarrassing 11v10

Tielemans off is a mistake. Pretty frustrating

Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Think Carrick was coaching about a 9/10 before the red and a 3/10 since. Not changing the attack for this long is wild

Every minute from now without Sesko is a mistake

Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
United weren’t creating chances but they were slicing through City in buildup 11v11 with the ball, and engaging lower and preventing incisive passing against them without the ball. Carrick deserves a lot of credit IMO. 55/45 against opposition with obviously better players

Why are people pretending Bruno and Foden exchanged equivalent blows lol

Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Honestly I think it’s pretty difficult these days to accumulate talent that’s meaningfully better than Premier League average, and Spurs have just spent hundreds of millions on players who also aren’t really there (other than Savio and Fernandes)

United have good forwards, open tactics, and play 60+ matches this season. The individual attacking numbers are going to look absurd

Toronto FC just kept buying players until there were more good MLS players than not good MLS players playing every week, and now they are not the worst team in MLS. Simple sport

Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
I’m not that well kept up with MLS despite being a ST holder, but Nashville first time in a while I’ve watched a team in any league and thought “this team is actually too good to be playing in this competition”

With the level of talent in their XI now, feel like City can kind of just sleep their way through wins. Type of thing where by October (before fixtures and injuries start to hurt) nobody thinks they’re particularly good and yet they’re 7-2-1 in their first 10

Early but Ipswich look like one of the worst coached teams I’ve ever seen in the PL

Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
Not sure I think Camara is good enough to meaningfully change games for Chelsea – in or out of possession – but feels like that’s baked into this fee, so decent move I guess

Haven’t watched loads of Ndiaye, but think the general consensus I’ve seen here is too low on him. He looks very strong on the ball and has many of the tools high goal impact players have. Everton’s attack is pretty dry, sometimes the numbers just don’t pop for a wide player in a team like that

Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
Think it is a bit lost on Spurs that the players they bring in have to actually be very good in order to win matches consistently. Just feels like numbers numbers numbers and they’re not even going to need numbers that badly this year

Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
I haven’t seen a normal transfer in 2-3 days now. Jesus to Barcelona. Woltemade to Juventus. David to Atleti. Liverpool turning down €100m for Gakpo. Mudryk to Spurs. What are we all doing
1150
Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
United just have so much quality in the side when they’re allowed to play now
1121
Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
While I think Shaw is past his best, I don’t think playing against Fatawu is a fair indicator of how he’ll be able to deal with PL wingers
070
Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Honest view is the plan under Carrick ultimately amounts to United just existing their way through games, hoping the first break goes their way to allow them to play with tides in their favour. Last season a lot of lucky first breaks happened so it looked better than it does now

If you’re Liverpool why would you sell Gakpo to a rival, and if you’re City why would you buy Gakpo

People really criticize Brighton and Hurzeler, as if they’re not playing Barcelona ball in pos and Arsenal ball out of pos with a midtable wage budget

Ipswich and Sunderland have both recruited a pretty decent amount of talent for their respective tenures around the first division, but they are both so so tactically open

Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
People are going to overcorrect their perceptions of both teams in this match by a huge margin for no real reason

Hull’s still getting relegated lol, you should not listen to people gassing this because they scored two SPs and then ate clearances all match. Some of the commentary on the broadcast has been embarrassing

My notes: – SET PIECES – height (Baleba, Sesko, Dalot) – width and depth (striker and winger) (Rashford?) – CB may be a problem – Maguire looks washed, others injured, kids not ready – Carrick still only has standout ideas in buildup – Despite all this we’d win today if not for item 1

Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
This is the era of the set piece and these set pieces have been embarrassing

This is the best midfield prospect United have had in a decade. Not a sure fire thing, but Baleba could very plausibly become a Top 5 midfielder in the league

1. Thought Savinho was the next big thing back in the Girona days. Super strong 1v1, pretty productive in front of goal 2. That is so much money 3. Any thoughts on why PL clubs are just selling actual good players to each other now?

I know Rodri is 30 and has had a few huge injuries, but I feel like this is not enough money to account for the fact that City have looked unbeatable when he’s fit and very much beatable when he’s not… for about half a decade now

Villa inheriting all the potential reward and at most a smaller mix of the risk on Garnacho, whom, despite all the issues that have emerged, is still very talented

I don’t even think 10% of my social circle in Canada watches soccer (despite it being my favourite thing in the world). Wouldn’t even say a huge amount watch World Cups. This year, every single person I know watched. 75% of the entire country is staggering. A total gamechanger

How can I in good faith criticize the halftime show when the game is the worst thing I’ve ever seen

Aaron Moniz @amoniz.bsky.social · 19/07/2026
I think this modern strategy where teams try to make every game the worst game ever is pretty awful, and these two teams in the final are in different ways a good reflection of that. And we should probably change some rules to prevent this in the future
