The movie is very good! It’s a movie about making a movie, and is really about what we value. It’s also about concrete. I love how John Wilson’s approach of walking into the streets without a plan results in these funny and moving interactions with people you would normally never see onscreen.

This was my first visit to The Mayfair theatre, an old one-room cinema in Ottawa. There’s stain glass signage. Commemorative knick knacks covered in cobwebs. Cheap snacks. Mildly uncomfortable seats. 5/5 experience.

It’s not against convention to continue to govern when you’re unpopular. As for the David Eby stuff, I think the media is delighted to cover it. It’s an interesting, crazy, and consequential story. In that sense, I think it shares something in common with those last Trudeau months.

I don’t know if the media is "annoyed", so much as they’re describing the situation in front of us. And there was constant scrutiny of Trudeau during that time. He was asked regularly if he was going to resign.

One reason I struggle to get into a lot of modern jazz is the drumming. That very bright, forward sound, with some hip hop and EDM influence. I don’t like it! I want a drummer who sounds like he’s falling down the stairs, or like he’s going to be shot if he stops hitting cymbals.

I think being a good parent involves dropping your cynicism and greeting the world generously. I’m able to enjoy top 40 pop songs and YA spy novels and the Sonic movies with my son. But I don’t know how I’ll get through the rest of this phoned-in garbage series.

While we’re on the subject, I’m enjoying Mule. The burnout/rehab lyrics set to joyous country rock really works better than that sounds like it should. Rehab Blues is a real standout. I’m not sure I like this as much as Bronco yet, but his stuff has a way of growing on me.
