A macho culture of performative selfishness might start on the roads, through racing, rolling coal, ever bigger SUVs ... But it doesn't end there. If we want to live in a decent country which values human life, we need to change this culture. My column. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Driving that’s too fast, too dangerous and utterly lawless: why do we tolerate this petro-masculinity? | George Monbiot
In towns and in the countryside, I see 4x4s and pick up trucks driven without care or consicence. It’s a Magafication of transport, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Excellent article by Senan Molony on FF/FG's "green retreat" — If you think a DOGE-like gutting of environmental policy is something only for Trump and the MAGA mob — — FF/FG in government are giving them a climate deniers run for their (our!) money. "Pragmatic" it is not.

The Irish Independent’s View: Acknowledging climate change is vital part of addressing problems like flooding
Taoiseach Micheál Martin has been dipping his toes in to the response to flooding in parts of the country as a result of heavy rainfall since the start of the year.

I'm in West Cork atm and am saddened, but not surprised, to see roadside ditches which have obviously been sprayed with weedkiller, the main target seems to be brambles which would soon becoming in to fruit. It's depressing to see but is it legal?

BP has said it expects to report higher oil and gas production for the 2nd quarter, after the energy giant renewed its focus on fossil fuels to help boost profits. BP have a new growth strategy focused on extracting more oil and gas, following pressure from some investors to boost its profits. 👇

Hedgerows are a shining example of nature benefiting from human intervention
The mix of plants provides a range of ecosystem services and habitats that natural colonisation would not achieve

A broken stream, a 'dirty drain'. Is there any hope for the Glasheen?
A major ecological report into the Glasheen highlights how degraded, polluted and devoid of biodiversity the city stream has become. But that health status report also offers a lifeline.
