Orc season is coming to a close, locally. My husband snapped this one of me at the local Ren Fest today. This is my orc, Basher. #1 question, "Aren't you hot?" Answer: yes. :D

As always happens when I start a new track on the comic, I have to decide the style. Sometimes I experiment way off track. Then I pull in, then press out again. Note the third drawing where I ran out of paper because I drew too big. Happens all the time.

This is a year's worth of work, at least on the comic. There were a bunch of portraits and other drawings as well. I'm just too slow, but this is the entirety of track 12 of "The City Silent." Looking at it like this, it does have that 'Vegas Show,' big loud graffiti feeling I wanted. That counts?

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

"The City Silent" page 285. One more page in the track. I've been working on this track for far too long...

082

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

"The City Silent" page 284. Almost...ALMOST done with this track. I just haven't felt the spark to create much lately.

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

Was doodling around in the sketchbook, playing with Digby before starting the next track for the comic. Sometimes I get distracted by other styles and have to play with them before coming back to where I started.

Folks, I'm really excited about this book. I never thought I'd convince @mikeluceart to let me sell copies! It's a gorgeous meditation on life in a city and making art. The illustration style amazes me. I love this book! Come check it out! -kjc

My favorite comic store in the world (@myp-comics.bsky.social) and its manager, Kelly Cooper have two copies of my comic "The City Dreams of Tamino the cat." Well, one. They already sold one. The only exist because Kelly wanted to try and sell them. I hope people read them. Thanks, Kelly!

"The City Silent" page 283. Rooster crowing.

City Silent page 282. Sure, these are simple pages but as long as they get across the idea that the mice are loud, they've done their job.

"The City Silent" page 280. Vegas, baby.

071

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 13/08/2026

And here's a new page from "The City Silent." I actually killed Rooster off once. He just didn't stay that way.

061

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

"The City Silent" pages 21-25, the Overture (3 of 3). Everything's a stage play or, in this case, an opera. Or a poetry slam.

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

"The City Silent" pages 11-20, the Overture. Would I draw this differently today? Hell yes. Will I go back and redraw this? Hell no. In that way lies madness.

041

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

My drawing style has changed a LOT in 10 years but this is the opening 10 pages of "The City Silent," meant to give context to what the hell I'm posting. (1 of 3)

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 29/07/2026

Another page in the very slow "The City Silent." I just haven't felt that creative spark much lately.

"The City Silent" page 276. I think Smatt's getting taller...

It's no longer 'in vogue,' but my blog turns 20 today. When it started in 2006, I was in the middle of making my first long form comic, "Fite!" I've kept a journal of pretty much all the work I've done along the way. I find it a useful tool, quiet though it is. So happy birthday, blog!

0153

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 04/07/2026

For the most part, no. My partner is very supportive of my making art and I have one friend who responds to my blog posts but that's it. The few folks that like and comment on here are very kind and I appreciate every response.

One of the reasons I haven't drawn anything this week is because I've been doing some voice over work for a game company in New Zealand. It's been two short sessions of grunting, screaming and dying. My throat's a little sore. :D

It's been FOREVER. But I just haven't had the spark to work on the comic. Tonight, I threw on some Beastie Boys and managed a decent Smatt page. He's my favorite as he's the loudest. Finished page and just inks of Smatt.

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 14/06/2026

Still haven't had much time to draw but I found this going through some old stuff. It's Digby before I toned him way down for "The City Silent." I need to loosen up more.

I've been wanting to experiment with portraits for awhile. An idea that came to mind was to keep the background and even figure as abstract as possible while doing a much more detailed version of the face. So I did.

Awhile back, was just sketching an old ref, turning him into an African wild dog. Didn't finish it, but I gave it to a buddy, @nemera.bsky.social to play with as he saw fit. Take a wander over to his account to see the finished work.

"The City Silent" page 273. It's been forever. It's also getting harder and harder to draw. The spark just isn't there most of the time. It's been a struggle. And I've been at this one for so damned long. Still, progress is progress.

1133

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 30/04/2026

A couple more sketches, one inked, one just a page from the sketchbook. He's fun to draw and it makes me happy. I know I should be working on the comic...

0153

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 29/04/2026

Spent a little time inking and coloring these two and I admit, they were a lot of fun to do.

A couple pages from the sketchbook as I haven't been able to finish anything lately. Rabbit-Thing and Pointy Weasel (I've got to come up with better names). Sometimes it's worth it just to messy sketch.

Mike Luce @kevinallenston.bsky.social · 26/04/2026

Y'all were so kind about my Rabbit Thing. Here's my favorite design of him, which became a t-shirt. He's a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. :D

I wonder if this counts. He never got a name past, "Rabbit Thing."
