I honestly think the trans boogeythey is not working as well as it used to. Like, they keep trotting this out and it's just not as effective. There is so little evidence of a mass conspiracy of trans kids playing sports that none of it feels, I don't know, sticky anymore.

I’m in a very strange position in which all of my favorite podcasts are releasing new shows I really want to listen to, but I can’t, because the new Stephen King book is read by Patton Oswalt on audio and I have priorities. But they need me!

I will forever be amused at that guy at the Literary Guild reading Richard Bachman's Thinner and saying, "This is what Stephen King would write like if Stephen King could really write.” Fame and popularity have a way of making people forget why you became famous and popular.

It took a long time for me to even feel comfortable talking about it. The only reason I ever did come out was because of Rocky Horror and how Meat Loaf seemed to be bisexual.

It didn't really stop for a long time. My first long-term boyfriend, of all people, would refrain, "He's not hot, he's fat." And he was into bears! Only slowly, as fat acceptance and the bear and "dadbod" movement trickled into the mainstream, has it become easier for me. But not, you know, easy.

Even at the youth groups I went to, the prevailing message was, "You can be anything you want to be and we will accept you. Except not fat. Ew, gross." This was ingrained in me. Only when I discovered Bear magazine (and later Bulk Male) did I have ANY idea I wasn't alone in this.

The prevailing "look" at the time was Abercrombie boys. If you didn't like youthful, skinny, hairless men, then you were aberrant. Other. My friends all said I was weird for thinking John Goodman was hot. And Drew Carey. And Otho from Beetlejuice.

There wasn't a word for "Bears" back then (at least as far as I knew) and there wasn't a context in which I could tell everyone I liked fat guys. The reason it took me so long to come out is because I thought that fat guys COULDN'T be gay, and if that was the case, then why come out?

My coming out was relatively easy, until it wasn't. I told my mom first, and she was like I know. Told my dad, who was uncomfortable but okay. Grandparents just wanted me to be happy. My friends were, to a one, fine with it. Two of them came out back to me. I got MORE popular at school! Until.

I got this shirt for my birthday and I haven’t really worn it because I usually wear Hawaiian shirts, but it’s really comfy so this is where Tuesday is. Also, I re-injured my knee while walking through the Muir Woods in San Francisco, so now there is a knee brace situation happening again. Huzzah!
