i think it's supposed to be like, after-images to confuse targeting. it is... not done well, either animation wise or from like an internal logic standpoint. it's basically just dumb magic they did to look cool.

Yep. The thought I said I wrote down to talk about later was basically that Destiny is at its core about conviction. Most of the main characters arcs center around either being very unsure of themselves, or being way too sure of themselves (even when they shouldn't be).

Yeah I think they hugely under-told her arc. It makes SENSE that she's indecisive, as like an 18 year old head of state being essentially preyed upon by career politicians and shackled to her feathers legacy. But they gloss over it so much that it just feels like character assassination.

in fairness, i think this does also apply to kira to an extent in destiny. because of their character arcs in SEED, they're pretty relegated to "we just wanted to be done with this and live together quietly, why are we getting dragged back into it" for a while. beats retreading, but not by much.

Seed and Destiny were both notorious for reusing a lot of footage in the original run and I think they redid some of those in particular

Oh yeah there was a lot of cropping done. The trade off is some new and cleaned up footage elsewhere, but the cropping outweighs the new stuff by a lot iirc

From what I understand, some stuff is cropped and some is redrawn. Most of the rest of that fight was basically a PowerPoint in the original lol But that and one change in the last episode or two are the most consequential I can recall, other than some cameos of Destiny characters in the remaster.

i know exactly what you're talking about, and 100% agree. it being "on purpose" in the heat of the moment (and the other death in that episode the same) is basically the entire reason for the pivot those characters make. now, in fairness to them, the original tried to make it seem accidental too,

i have had a number of conversations in the industry where people in my role (producer) act like it's so valuable and i sit there thinking of how many extra problems i've seen it create. i.e. people passing off understanding AI code to reviewers, saves a PERSON time, but is a net loss in aggregate.
