Lots of things have happened lately. Kernel Rust is no more an experimental project and has been included in Debian. Binder IPC driver also officially switched to Rust in the kernel #kr2026

p90 review turnaround: 4.0h → 16m for a single patch (14.7h → 29m for a series), between March and September 2026 171k patch reviews across 91 mailing lists, ~36.6k reviews/month, and 18M autonomous git lookups (~105 per review). Every review inspects callers, callees, lock rules and git history

MPTCP: what's next, and by which path? (That joke clearly needed a fallback path. Going to lunch to find one.) #kr2026

Some C corner cases : missed return on the error path; kernel structs like struct completion are self-referential, so they must not be moved after initialization; use-after-free through a stale reference. A Handler borrowing a Channel can't outlive it #kr2026

free memory is wasted memory, and so is cold memory. Swapping out cold anonymous folios lets the kernel cache more and do less IO, so everyday things like git log or grep get faster. #kr2026 - Kairui Song
010
Kernel Recipes @kernelrecipes.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Swap's bad reputation was earned, but fast storage and memory compression changed the equation: swapping out cold anonymous pages leaves more room to cache hot data. Poor performance is usually bad eviction, not swap itself.
010
Kernel Recipes @kernelrecipes.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Less memory, one data source, no more synchronization hacks. The payoff: a much cleaner swapin path built on that single source, with legacy workarounds gone, a tidier internal API, lower memory use and better performance. 2/2

Survival guide for the age of bots #kr2026: If it feels wrong, it probably is Ignore the doom marketing Keep your models at home NEVER feed them anything non-public Found a bug? Fix it. Today. Yourself Meanwhile, the kernel security team now asks for a patch with your report. Revolutionary concept
011
Kernel Recipes @kernelrecipes.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
kernel maintainers about bots they talk: endless changelogs nobody asked for they flood: dozens of "fix leak" patches before your first coffee they lie: the "best" models are still wrong half the time they leak: whatever you tell them, they'll tell someone else So basically, perfect coworker!

With the devastating wildfires affecting France this summer, it also reminds us that technology doesn’t exist in a vacuum. The challenges we face are shared—and so is the responsibility to build a better future. See you at Kernel Recipes 2026 !

Heya, Heya! Before the presents land under the Christmas tree, we’re super happy and honored to reveal the name of our godfather for the 2026 edition: Jonathan Corbet. Huge thanks to him for giving us a bit of his time — we know how precious it is.
