The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.

If you ever wondered why visible light is those particular wavelengths, it's because life evolved to see in the narrow range where water is transparent

Household debt at a record high. Student loan defaults at a record high. Credit card debt at a near record high. Meanwhile, corporate profits are the highest they’ve ever been. CEOs are paid 325x more than their typical workers. U.S. billionaire wealth is up 30% in a year. It's unsustainable.

Somehow not everyone is aware of fact alluded to below. So one more time: John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett were all on GWBush 2000 'Florida Recount' team. (Which made GWB first prez in 112 yrs to 'win' after losing popular vote. Now they 'impartially' rule on our future.)

Woah. Woah. Woah! Don’t you know you’re not allowed to be critical of journalists. The pursuit of the almighty dollar trumps any responsibility they have to hold truth to power. How dare you suggest there’s anything more important than “clicks”.

really frustrated by the number of elder bigots across nz media and commentary, and the acceleration of *most* of the younger reporters to mirror their forebears doesn't matter if 'the industry is just like that' or 'we need clicks', it's repugnant and individuals CAN actually stand up against it

I think anyone who believes they know how it’ll pan out are fooling themselves. How people our age consume media probably won’t change much. But the generational shifts are likely to be very different.

I think we’ll get personalised movies eventually. Not necessarily “create me a film from scratch”, but more like “give me Alien, but replace Sigourney Weaver with Sarah Michelle Gellar”.

My position on why the EU- NZ trade agreement complaint’s so serious- we can’t have it both ways - we can’t claim to be honest brokers on a world stage while at home we’re not keeping to the fair climate/sustainability rules we expect our trade partners to also stick to www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

It's critical to remember we have NO civics education in New Zealand. Ppl do not necessarily know how MMP works, how a coalition works, or how to best make their vote reflect their values The more you can make talking about politics normal and chill, the more ppl feel they're allowed to be curious

There are strict guidelines around jumping in. People are landing constantly and there’s usually no issue (due to the heavy amounts of experience required). I wonder if she was walking or on a bike. E-bikes have created issues where an empty land is suddenly occupied by speeding cyclists.

The noble democratic role of journalism is more and more being forced out by its owners seeing it as just product, price, cost, sale, profit (and propaganda). This is my point. We’re losing the democratic purpose of journalism, while people try to pretend it isn’t happening.
