Jack Teagarden 1905 - 1964 Louis Armstrong called him the world's greatest Jazz musician. A virtuoso of the trombone, here in Jack-Armstrong Blues, Teagarden removes the bell of his instrument, playing only the slide into a water glass and muting it like a trumpet. #musicsky #Jazz #Blues #trombone

When someone tells you to "Beware of Pods", it is wise to listen.

Casting director must have had a field day. All key and interesting parts. Nice shots of the interior of the Society of Illustrators, Harvey Dunn Room, and directed at a table I've occupied.

Yes, heard it on NPR the other day😞. Have seen NxNW so many times, thought of watching another favorite, "Loving". One of those movies few people have heard of, with a great cast, and interesting background story. An off-beat film about "illustrators", which co-star, George Segal is in the film.

Weird Tales cover, October 1933 Woman in costume with a Bat headpiece and mask.

Margaret Brundage (1900-1976) was the key cover artist in the 1930s for the legendary Weird Tales pulp magazine.

After high school, Margaret worked illustrating for Chicago newspapers where she drew fashion designs from concepts provided by an ad agency.

Following that, she studied at Art Institute of Chicago; and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts.

Beginning in 1932, Brundage started working for Weird Tales magazine where she produced 39 straight covers between June 1933 to August 1936. The January 1945 issue was her last effort for the magazine, making a total of 66.

She continued to draw after her contractual relationship with Weird Tales ended, appearing at science fiction conventions and art fairs, where some of her original art was stolen.

However, Margaret never fully recovered financially from the loss of regular work at Weird Tales, with her later years spent in relative obscurity and poverty, continuing to work until her death.

He was for certain. Required reading almost always included Science Fiction or Horror. I believe the Christopher Lee is about 20+ or - years old. It was one of many items distributed by a recently deceased friend and is being restored. This one, like the other photo is how mine "once" appeared.

Ennis House is fabulous. Restored within the decade? A different approach to design from his Usonian styles. There are also a lot of views of it in The Rocketeer. Several of his homes locally, and numerous Herb Fritz (apprentice) homes. Check PBS doc with granddaughter Anne Baxter. From his house⬇️

That is indeed a very cool place! Interesting in that Wright designed a civic center here in 1959 but owed money to everyone in the city and it was nixed. In the 1990's someone pulled the plans and said, "let's build it", so it was finished in 1997. It has always reminded me of the Marin County CC.

West is much more modern in appearance. Wasn't it used as the base of operations for Destination Moon? Seems like they are the structures we see. Have a lot of slides of Taliesin, inside and out. Have a stone from his house, and other things like art. Posted the obelisk but is the only pic scanned.

His astronomical art is where my first impressions of planets and galaxies were derived. The panoramas he painted for movies like Destination Moon were also amazing. Some of those places were the first I visited. Stayed there a few months while a friend was in Europe. Taliesin is 40 miles West.👍

Chesley Bonestell 1888-1986 A superb astronomical artist, great designer, and one of the country's top architectural illustrators. He painted this poster for the NY Central building in 1930; and designed ceiling murals and elevator finish for the Chrysler Building. #art #scifi #movies #architecture
Poster:
New York Central Building Park Avenue, New York. At the Gateway to a Continent, in a symmetrically justified san-serif typeface is located at the lower 1/6th of the composition.

The painted image is a symmetrical composition of the main New York Central Building, an evening sky in the background, with warm yellow lighting illuminating the lower part of the building and other structures at the horizon line, or eye level.

Artist: Chesley Bonestell 1888-1986

Chesley Bonestell was largely recognized for his superb astronomical art seen in movies, books, and magazines. However, he was also an excellent designer, and one of the country's top architectural illustrators.

Among his many projects, Bonestell worked with architects Cass Gilbert and William Van Allen designing the ceiling murals and elevator car finish for the Chrysler Building in New York City.

In February 1930 when this poster was produced for the recently completed New York Central Building astride Park Avenue, Bonestell was employed by Warren & Wetmore, the building's architects.

In an interview, Bonestell's perspective on the twin objective of creating an eye-catching image while accommodating the public's preference for realism was simply described:

"Contrary to the usual conception, I see no objection to detail provided it doesn't weaken or confuse the design."

Fantastic! A real "jeep" of a sportscar. Got to drive one and know what you mean, but if it was mine today (of course), I'd be in it right now! I have a Red Doepke 1/16th scale 1953 MG-TD, made out of pressed steel and cast aluminum with rolling pneumatic tires. I'll have to take a photo of it.

Honestly, would have written the same about most all of his music. He was such a unique talent. From 1970-1980, I saw so many concerts that the frequency and talent would be unheard of today. That show was Spring 1976, at the Marcus PAC, and an unusual playbill in that they were co-headliners.

Absolutely! British cars have that real blood & guts feel with a purpose. A friend had a '38 MG-TC. He and his wife drove it through Europe on their honeymoon. Asked if it ever broke down? "Sure, we had wrenches and would fix it." The A-B part makes sense, but you lose a lot of charm.

Absolutely, a masterpiece. Saw Bill with Roberta Flack at the Marcus amphitheater in Milwaukee. He very carefully explained the story behind Grandma's Hands and why it was his favorite song. Wasn't really comparing Bill's music side to side, but rather his music with almost everyone else. 😁🎼

Love Triumphs! Wanted a GT6 back in the day. All the TR's were real good cars, especially the early 2's & 3's. Would imagine yours was fun in those weather conditions. First car was a '56 Chevy, then a lot of hot rod stuff. The 2nd AR was a '65 Giulia Spyder; then '75 Alfetta; then '87 Milano75.🏎️

Thank you for sending! Started watching but will also finish later. Noted the Carriage designed example during the opening scene. An amazing car right down to the White Elephant radiator mascot designed by Ettore's brother, sculptor Rembrandt Bugatti. All the model type Bugatti's were works of art.
