The fact that ICE has detained 500 US citizens is unsurprising given the Republican Party’s promises of mass deportations and ‘making America white again’! It was inevitable that US citizens would get swept up in their dragnets.

This is 100%correct. The Republican Party’s project is to destroy American government and institutions. They want to implement one-party permanent rule and keep the multiracial Democratic coalition out of power. The sooner Democrats recognize that the better off the party will be.

This is an important statement people, and especially elected Dems need to really understand. The current Republican project is one of destruction, by design. Yes, they have other goals, in RFK’s case he’s objectively pro-disease, but their primary metric of success is breaking government.

This is the philosophy of the Republican Party writ large - from the Supreme Court to its voters. Republicans want to destroy the Democrats multiracial coalition and keep them out of power. They’ll use violence to achieve it. There’s no common ground with authoritarians who want to destroy you.

Republicans are trying to destroy American institutions, the rule of law, civil and voting rights, multiracial democracy, and they’re trying to remove black and brown immigrants from the country. Going to lunch with them to try to understand them isn’t going to fix that.

1. Let's not say goodbye to Eric Schmitt just yet. His story is about more than a power-mad senator falling on his face. It's part of a larger story about the Republicans defending the leader of an insurrection against the United States.

Trump voters are the most cowardly kind of murderers, the ones who enable and empower it in the first place but don’t want to actually pull the triggers themselves and feel personally distressed at having the trigger pulled in their vicinities.

The issue with Friedersdorf and others on the “anti-wokeness”crusade is that their refusal to acknowledge gutter racism on the right has led them to this moment when they’ve embraced and championed bigots like Rufo. There’s a willful bias against those who fight for civil and voting rights.

There is an asymmetry in coverage between extremists aligned with Republicans and Democrats. However, El-Sayed chose to campaign with Piker which was a very poor choice that demonstrates a serious lack of judgment and discernment.

They want the university to be overwhelmingly White. That was always the goal

Bo French’s racist reaction to a diverse student body in Texas at a football game and the GOP’s fight about the country’s changing demographics is one of the reasons we’re in a moment where the democracy is in danger of collapsing. Many white voters agree with the GOP & vote accordingly.

The reason Mehdi Hasan, Wajahat Ali & many on the left keep making excuses for Rula Jabreal's racism is that they believe that because their 'cause is righteous' it's fine to call Black people "monkeys" & "errand boys"! They believe Jeffries deserves the racism because they disagree with him.

This just downplays the harm and the choice of Rula using racist language. It also does nothing to actually address her racism towards Black folks. I don’t expect white conservatives to NOT be racist. I expect ppl who claim to be allies to at least watch their mouth when speaking on Black folks.

Medhi Hasan was not the only defender of Rula. (Yes, claiming someone didn’t mean their racism and aren’t racist despite their actions is a defense.) The same defense was deployed by Joy Ann Reid, Marc Lamont Hill, and Wajahat Ali in defense of Rula.

He goes on to mention Hasan who went on a racist rant about Black people after being told to keep Black folks out of his mouth because he doesn’t speak on the Congolese genocide. It’s not just annoying. It’s a trend of unaddressed racism towards Black folks from people who claim to know better.

The left continues the equivocations about Jebreal’s gutter racism. Medhi Hasan determined that he should write a column complaining about how Democrats don’t call out racism the same way they called out Jebreal’s. They’re not allies & we’re not fighting the same fight. Black folks will remember.
