Story time! I grew up in a small, rural community called Rice, Texas. It was poor and left behind by time. Single-wide trailers were one of the main forms of housing. When I was in grade school, my class was predominantly white: there were only a few hispanic kids.

I worked a manufacturing job as a teenager. My family had a business making custom wood shutters. I worked on the factory floor like any employee. It’s not glamorous. You do the same thing over and over and over again for 2 hr stretches with short breaks in between.
