Finally got around to implementing a "Hide Fu/Han" and "Hide Points" toggle to @kemonomahjong.bsky.social, to aid those trying to learn scoring and want to "quiz themselves". Still got to get some translations and some gamepad support implemented, but it's mostly done. :) #indieGameDev #mahjong

Visiting my parents in Scotland; found the mahjong set I grew up with. We played Chinese/European Classical style... it was after I moved to Canada that I learned Riichi (Japanese style). #mahjong

Am old mahjong set, with tiles in trays, 4 sticks for arranging players' hands, dice, and colourful scoring chips.

Some "how to play" booklets are reading in the top part of the open case.

A really old "let's play mahjong" instruction book, dated "1976/1977"

Kansas City Riichi Mahjong uses the Japanese (riichi) style of play. They host meet-ups for all skill levels at Cardboard Cafe at the Lenexa Public Market each week on alternating Thursdays and Sundays. They also host open play sessions at events like KantCon and Midwest GameFest

I wonder if I should set "Japanese Terms" to "on" by default for new installs. Originally I was adhering to EMA terminology, but... Chi/Pon/Kan seems more standard to me at this point. But… that could just be what I'm used to.

Kinda curious to know what a "stripped down, limited gameplay" version of my game might be. Maybe one hand (instead of a full match)... no character unlocks, limited to 3 CPU characters? Just enough to say "look, there is a complete game here, please play to unlock it"? #indieGameDev #mahjong

It's kinda tempting to release a "free" (but very limited) version of my game, with a separate payment option that charges (far) less to unlock full functionality. Of course, I'd rather the 30% "platform tax" be drastically reduced, as it's damaging gaming. #indieGameDev

The iOS & Android versions are not on sale - sorry - but... they're already cheap, and offer the same functionality as the Steam/PC version, and you can take it on the go. :) The iOS version can also be played in full screen on a Mac. #mahjong #indieGame

For those still on iOS 15-17... I've submitted a new build to Apple, and hopefully they'll approve it soon. This should restore basic gameplay... sorry for the issue. I'll be supporting iOS 18+ going forward, but I wanted to ensure there's still a version that works on older OS's... #indieGameDev

I hang out with so many game devs and marketeers that I always (mistakenly) assume this is common knowledge. If you want to do a gamedev a gigantic favor that costs you literally nothing but 3min of your time, write them a Steam review. ESPECIALLY if they have less than 500 or so.

New build (1.50.31) is out now for Steam (Win/Linux) and Android, and is currently being reviewed by Apple - hopefully will be approved soon. If you're running Android 8.x or 9, you should get 1.49.00, which should launch correctly again.

Small, free act you can do to bring some good in this world: add positive reviews to ALL you Steam games, especially the small indies. You don't need to write anything smart, just "game good" is enough. Every positive steam review tips the algorithm and helps your fav artists get more sales
