I used to write for @reductress @mcsweeneys and @belladonnacomedy and was Twitter famous for, like, a week in 2014. Now just a mere mortal. Thinking of joining a writing group if you know any.

How I plan to spend my free time this autumn.

Had trouble sleeping while on vacation and now there’s road work taking place that started at 4am, just after I had given up on falling asleep naturally and had taken a sleeping pill. My cat could not be more excited about me being awake because maybe I’ll feed him breakfast early.

I’m so much better at Merlin than I ever was at Pokemon GO.

Dream Mother’s Day moment achieved. Hammock, in a screened tent, with a cozy book, on a warm enough day with a light rainstorm.

This one was my favorite April Fools’ joke today. Good job Emily Dickinson Museum!

Announcing a Rebrand...

In an effort to silence critics who mistake the poet's signature punctuation for AI, the Emily Dickinson Museum is officially rebranding as the Em Dash Museum. The Museum aims to reclaim the dash from modern technological woes and return it to its rightful owner. After all, the em dash is named after Emily…

There’s something deeply comforting about knowing 8 year olds still do this.
There is a certain S that elementary school students used to draw that is sort of like the Superman logo except that it isn’t.

Tonight in things I just found out my 8 year old knows that I don’t. (The answer is a 64th note.)

Every time I walk by the old GoBerry, I pause and take a moment to put out into the universe that there should be a new froyo place. I’m sorry my manifestation powers seem limited to froyo and not Presidential elections.

I know it’s not Caturday, but my cat climbed into a bed and started purring with his head on the pillow so I did the only reasonable thing and tucked him in.

Rewatching these scenes recently brought me physical pain.
Scene from The Good Place where Paul Scheer’s character says “He’s got a point. The fair thing for us to do is just keep giving up more and more stuff we want, unilaterally, until this demon is finally happy.”

Decided to check some of the media outlets to see how they’re reporting on everything that’s happening right now and no need to panic, CNN is right on top of showing a Christopher Reeve documentary.

I received this note in my mailbox that I truly needed to see today, so maybe someone else needs to see it too. I removed the first name at the end because it was unique and I’m assuming they specifically didn’t provide a full name for privacy reasons.

Dear Fellow American

I see by your sign that you voted for Harris/Walz, so did I. I know things look bad right now, but please do not lose hope. I am not saying it will be easy, it most definitely will not be, but I hope this is a wake-up call to other like-minded individuals that we cannot take anything for granted.

We must not fall into despair (I know it’s hard). Donald Trump may have won the popular vote this time but remember there are still 70 million+ of us who did not vote for him. Remember that we are not alone. We need to grieve this tremendous loss, then we need to fight. It will not be an easy or quick fight, and you are entitled to take breaks, but Trump and his followers win if we give up completely or stay silent. Those who will be in power want to isolate and separate us, it makes them stronger and us weaker. However, we are stronger together. As Kamala Harris said, “When we fight, we win.”

For now, please use self-care: actively protect your own wellbeing and happiness - exercise, journal, practice gratitude, meditate, etc. and surround yourself with people who will help you stay strong in these difficult times. If you ever feel down and like this is futile (I’ve felt this a lot recently), remember that this kind of thing has happened in history before, and humankind survived. Please take this note of encouragement and do something in the community if you are able. Best wishes and know there are many others out there who will be fighting back, please be one of them.
